Santa Catarina drivers need to observe the deadline set by Detran/SC to collect physical licenses already issued and still stored at state units, in a measure involving forgotten documents, in-person service, and possible new fee charges for those who miss the deadline.
Drivers in Santa Catarina who have not yet collected the physical version of the National Driver’s License issued before December 5, 2025, must contact Detran/SC by Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
After this deadline, uncollected documents will be invalidated and destroyed by the state agency, according to a warning issued by the Santa Catarina government to reduce the accumulation of physical licenses at the State Department of Traffic units.
The measure affects drivers who have already had their license printed but have not completed the in-person collection of the document at the location responsible for issuance, renewal, duplicate, or request for the definitive CNH.

Study reveals that the number of ultra-rich individuals in the U.S. adopting additional citizenships as a contingency plan is increasing, using international investment programs to gain enhanced mobility, legal protection, and economic alternatives in the face of increasingly unpredictable global scenarios.
In Florianópolis alone, more than eight thousand licenses remain stored awaiting their owners, while Itajaí holds over 20 thousand forgotten licenses, according to a report by a regional representative of Detran/SC to NDTV Record.
Although many drivers use the Digital CNH daily, the state government’s warning specifically addresses the already issued physical version, which will no longer be available after destruction.
Those who miss the deadline will not automatically receive a new printed license and, if they need the physical document later, will have to request another issuance and pay the fees again for the service.
Deadline to collect the CNH ends on June 2
The deadline applies to licenses issued before December 5, 2025, and still stored at Detran/SC units, where they remain kept until collected by the driver or an authorized representative.
To avoid invalidation, the guidance is to confirm the document’s status and contact the responsible unit for the process, especially in cases of renewal, duplicate issuance, or obtaining the definitive CNH.
According to the state agency, the destruction of uncollected CNHs follows a procedure related to the security and control of physical documents, as thousands of licenses remain stalled at the units.
With invalidation, the license is no longer available for delivery, and the driver who wishes to obtain the printed version again will need to submit a new request to Detran/SC.
The accumulation of licenses is not recent, according to the regional supervisor of Detran/SC in Itajaí, Fabiano Dias Perfeito, who reported the situation during an interview with SC No Ar, from NDTV Record.
“This is a problem that has been happening for a long time at Detran. Today in Itajaí we have more than 20,000 licenses that were forgotten here at the agency,” said Fabiano Dias Perfeito.
In the capital of Santa Catarina, the volume also draws attention due to the number of documents left, as the survey mentioned by Detran indicates more than eight thousand CNHs stored in Florianópolis without being collected by the holders.
Collection of the physical CNH does not require scheduling
To collect the physical CNH, it is not necessary to make a prior appointment, according to the guidelines released by Detran/SC to drivers who still need to collect the document within the established deadline.
The service must occur in person at the unit responsible for issuing the license, with the presentation of an official photo ID by the holder, so that the delivery is completed before disposal.
If the driver cannot attend, the collection can be made by a legal representative, provided there is a power of attorney and sufficient documentation to prove the authorization on behalf of the driver.
In the last days before the final date, the proximity of the destruction of the licenses increased the movement in the units, with drivers trying to confirm if the CNH was still available for collection.
Among the drivers who sought service was cultural producer Ianca Rass, who reported having made the request through digital channels and decided to check the status of the license in person.
“I came to collect my CNH. It’s been a while since I made the request through the website and the app, and today I came to see if it is still here,” said Ianca Rass.
The case shows the situation of drivers who completed service steps online or through the app but still needed to go to Detran/SC to receive the physical copy of the document.
CNH consultation can be done through the app
Through the CNH Digital app, the driver can check information related to the license, including the issue date, which helps identify if the document is in the group subject to destruction.
This check is important for those who requested any licensing service in previous months and are not sure if they collected the physical copy after issuance by Detran/SC.
Another way to avoid inconvenience is to verify if the printed license has already been received previously, especially when the driver uses only the digital version daily and does not check the status of the physical copy.
If you have requested renewal, a duplicate, or a definitive CNH, but do not remember collecting the document, the driver should seek the unit where the process was carried out.
In addition to in-person service, Detran/SC offers digital services related to licensing, such as renewal, duplicate issuance, and issuance of the definitive CNH, but collecting the printed license requires verification at the responsible unit.
Even so, for the physical document already issued and stored, delivery must occur at the location indicated by the agency, according to the guidelines provided to Santa Catarina drivers.
New issuance of CNH will incur a fee
Drivers who do not collect their CNH within the deadline and have the document destroyed will need to request a new issuance later, following the applicable requirements for the licensing service.
In this situation, there will be a new charge for the fees provided for the procedure, as the previous physical license will have been destroyed by Detran/SC and can no longer be delivered to the holder.
The duplicate CNH can be requested in cases of misplacement, loss, theft, robbery, damage, or defacement of the document, provided the license is within the validity period.
According to Detran/SC guidelines, this service can be initiated at a Ciretran, at a Driver Training Center, or through the digital channels provided by the agency.
For the duplicate, the documentation usually includes identification, recent proof of residence, and a police report in cases of theft or robbery, according to the rules informed by the department.
In cases of loss or misplacement, the report can be replaced by a declaration from the driver, provided the request follows the procedures required for the new issuance of the CNH.
The new fee charge, however, does not automatically represent the loss of the right to drive, as the Detran/SC alert refers to the destruction of the uncollected physical document.
The status of the license remains linked to the rules of validity, registration regularity, and any administrative impediments provided for in traffic legislation, regardless of the destruction of the stored printed version.
Digital CNH does not eliminate alert about the physical version
Even with the Digital CNH available, the driver must monitor the status of the physical version when it has already been issued by Detran/SC and remains stored in a state unit.
The app functions as a tool for consulting and accessing the digital document, but the alert from the Santa Catarina government involves printed licenses that remain in the units due to lack of collection.
For this reason, the recommendation is to check the issuance date and identify the unit responsible for the process, especially in cases where the request was made through digital channels.
The check becomes even more important for those who have renewed their license, requested a duplicate, or applied for the definitive CNH and do not remember having attended Detran/SC in person.
The guidance applies to drivers from different regions of Santa Catarina, as the accumulation of physical documents is not limited to the capital nor to a single department unit.
Itajaí and Florianópolis are cited as examples of the largest reported volumes, but the alert from Detran/SC reaches the state units with documents issued within the defined period.
After June 2, 2026, the physical licenses covered by the rule will no longer be available for delivery to holders or authorized legal representatives.
Those who need the printed document after it becomes void must initiate a new request, meet the requirements of the corresponding service, and pay the applicable fees for the issuance of the CNH.
