The Construction Project of a Bridge Linking the Cities of Porto Xavier (RS) and San Javier, in Argentina, Will Ensure the Integration of the National Market with That of the Neighboring Country. The Brazilian Government Will Invest R$ 220 Million in the Works Plan.
Ensuring commercial integration with neighboring countries is the main objective of the Federal Government for Brazil regarding the economy of Latin America. For this Friday, (21/10), a construction project is being developed to build a bridge linking Porto Xavier, in Rio Grande do Sul, to San Javier, in Argentina. The main goal of the venture is to ensure market growth for both regions. To this end, an investment of R$ 220 million will be made by the Brazilian government.
Bridge Linking Porto Xavier and San Javier Will Count on Million-Dollar Investment for Its Construction, Which Will Begin in 2023
The construction project of the bridge linking Porto Xavier to the Argentine region of San Javier has achieved another major milestone.
This past Tuesday, the regional superintendent of the National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (Dnit), Hiratan Pinheiro da Silva, signed the contract for the construction of the structure over the Uruguai River in Santo Ângelo.

Local authorities and representatives from Coesa Construções e Montagens, the company responsible for the works plan, were also present at the contract signing.
The project aims to ensure greater growth for the market in the Rio Grande do Sul Missions region, and according to the Federal Government’s forecast, it should be completed in about two and a half years.
The Brazilian investment for the project will be R$ 220 million, ensuring safety and logistical quality in the bridge that will serve as an alternative to the crossings located in Uruguaiana and São Borja.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio Cunha Filho, is expected to visit the city of Porto Xavier next week to sign the service order to begin the construction of the bridge and discuss the national investment.
He stated that the work will begin in 2023, aiming to contribute to the gaucho market: “The Missions region has been waiting for this bridge for over a decade. We now have the projects ready and will start the works next year, so that we can connect another region with Argentina, which will greatly develop the Missions region.”
The Construction Project for the New Bridge Has Been Circulating in the National Congress for a Few Years but Should Be Completed by 2026
Although it is currently accelerating, the project for the bridge between Porto Xavier and San Javier has been circulating in the National Congress for a few years.
In 2017, an investment of R$ 81 million was allocated to the project. However, in 2018, R$ 56 million was reallocated for the duplication of BR-116, between Guaíba and Pelotas.
The construction of the bridge then seemed difficult to realize, but the mayor of Santo Ângelo, Jacques Barbosa, who is president of the Missions Municipal Association (AMM), believes that the situation has changed in the current market.
He mentioned that the current bidding process has all the licensing and executive project necessary for the construction of the bridge, thus ensuring greater ease in moving it forward.
The executive also highlighted that the bridge will provide a viability for grain flow through the ports here in Argentina, about 250 kilometers away from here.
Thus, the national government’s million-dollar investment will yield benefits to the gaucho market over the coming years.
