Program Expected to Be Launched in September
The government intends to launch this new version of the Gas Aid in September.
The initial forecast was for August, but the announcement was postponed.
Now, the expectation is that the program will be officially presented in the coming weeks.
According to the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, the timeline is about two weeks for the launch.
The measure is seen as one of the pillars to strengthen Lula’s popularity, especially in the period leading up to the next presidential election.
Expected Reach and Rules
According to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the program is expected to reach 17 million families.
The benefit will guarantee a free gas cylinder per household, limited to one aid per family.
Currently, the government already maintains the Gas Aid, which offers discounts on the price of the gas cylinder.
The new version aims to expand this policy and ensure direct access to the product.
Furthermore, the program will be directed at families registered in the Unified Registration, with a per capita income equal to or lower than half the minimum wage.
The funding will be exclusive for the withdrawal of the gas cylinder, with no possibility of use for other expenses.
Therefore, the measure seeks to ensure that the aid directly meets the main need: access to cooking gas.
Transfer Model
The functioning of the program provides for gas resellers to receive a regionally referenced amount from the government.
This amount will be defined by the Union and paid directly to the companies responsible for distribution.
Thus, the beneficiary will not handle cash. The model prevents misappropriations and ensures that the aid is used solely for purchasing the gas cylinder.
The government is also counting on this system to simplify the process and make distribution more agile, reducing bureaucracies.
