Belo Horizonte Receives Million-Dollar Investment in New Plant for Green Hydrogen Generators. Project Promises to Create Hundreds of New Jobs, as Well as a Partnership Between Brazil and Germany.
This Sunday (12), the group Neuman & Esser announced it will invest R$ 70 million to expand its industrial park in Belo Horizonte and build the first green hydrogen generator factory in South America. The project is located in the Olhos D’Água neighborhood, and the estimate is that the investment will bring 75 direct jobs and 200 indirect jobs to the residents.
Brazil Has Strategic Location for New Plant for Green Hydrogen Generators
The Vice Chancellor, equivalent to the Vice President in Brazil, and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany, Robert Habeck, and the Mayor of Belo Horizonte, Fuad Noman, were present at the ceremony, along with Flávio Roscoe, president of Fiemg. Other authorities from Germany and Brazil were also present at the event.
Green hydrogen is produced through water, using renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, and wind. Its use releases only water vapor into the atmosphere. Thus, the fuel has been seen as a means that could decarbonize economic sectors such as cement, transportation, and long-distance steel industries.

According to Neuman & Esser, Brazil’s position in the world and its favorable climatic conditions for solar irradiation, along with the availability of air currents, make green hydrogen generated in Brazil one of the most competitive in the world.
The new factory of green hydrogen generators installed in Belo Horizonte aims to produce equipment such as PEM and Alkaline electrolyzers, in addition to ethanol and biogas or natural gas reformers, which can also be used as sources for the production of green hydrogen.
Investment Will Strengthen Brazil’s and the World’s Energy Matrix
According to statements by Marcelo Veneroso, executive director of Neuman & Esser in Brazil, green hydrogen production is a significant opportunity that Brazil can seize. The country has a rich source of solar and wind energy. It can be both an exporting hub for hydrogen commodity and primarily use the fuel in manufacturing to sell green manufactured and industrialized products.
Fuad Noman, mayor of Belo Horizonte, believes that the investment is essential not only for Belo Horizonte but for the world. Noman emphasizes that the world is in an era of change in the energy matrix. Green hydrogen is a revolution, and Belo Horizonte is very happy to be one of the first cities in the country to receive a new factory for green hydrogen generators.
Fernando Passalio, Secretary of Economic Development of Minas Gerais, considers that Neuman & Esser made the perfect investment as it combines sustainability with quality jobs. The company is talking about highly qualified labor. The investment brings recognition to the state, which becomes one of the pioneers in the production of this fuel in the world. Furthermore, the products will benefit from this clean energy source.
Brazil Is the Only Country in South America That Has a Partnership with Germany
In a speech that concluded the ceremony, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck stated that Brazil is a premium partner and the only South American country that has a strategic partnership with Germany. Habeck emphasizes that there is a shift in the economic paradigm, as the focus has moved beyond mere economic growth and prosperity to consider environmental protection and climate change.
The production of hydrogen in Brazil encompasses these two aspects. Habeck stated that the European country plans to expand the consumption and production of green hydrogen to initially replace coal as an energy source. The Vice Chancellor advocated for greater closeness between countries and between Mercosur and the European Union.
