A Family Trip Turned Into A Police Case After A Man Noticed, 300 Kilometers Later, That He Had Forgotten His Wife At A Gas Station. Not Knowing Where He Left Her, He Called Emergency Services And Mobilized Authorities For Hours.
An unusual case surprised French authorities on July 5. A 62-year-old man, on a car trip with his family to Morocco, called emergency services to report that he had forgotten his wife at a gas station — and couldn’t remember which one.
Common Stop Turns Into Confusion
During the trip, the couple and their 22-year-old daughter made several stops at gas stations.
Around 4:30 AM, the man left one of those locations and continued the journey, not realizing that his wife was not in the car. The situation was only noticed about 300 kilometers later.

Upon noticing the absence, the man called emergency services, but he could not provide the name of the gas station or its exact location. “We received this rather confusing call around 8:30 AM,” reported the Gendarmerie of the Lardes region to France 3.
“The gentleman mentioned a stop he made near Orléans. We contacted our colleagues in the area to check.”
Daughter Was Asleep And Did Not Help
The couple’s daughter, who was also in the vehicle, was asleep for most of the trip and was unable to assist in the search.
Since the woman was not found in the first rest areas checked, there was suspicion that the husband might have left her on purpose.
As time passed and tension increased, the police decided to use technological resources. Thanks to the tracking of the woman’s cellphone by a carrier, they were able to locate her.
She had been waiting at a gas station in Deux-Sèvres since 4:30 AM, not moving from the spot, hoping her husband would realize the mistake.
After a brief investigation, authorities concluded that it was all just a genuine oversight. The wife was finally found, and the family was allowed to continue their trip to Morocco, leaving the bizarre story behind, but not without generating surprise — and some embarrassment.
