Accounts presented from popular models and SUVs show that the real cost of a financed car can far exceed the monthly installment, with a direct impact from insurance, IPVA, maintenance, fuel, and interest on the budget of those who decide to buy.

Maintaining a financed car in Brazil may require a net income higher than the installment suggests, in accounts that include financing, insurance, IPVA, maintenance, and fuel for models like Kwid, Polo, Corolla Cross, Haval H9, and SW4.

Channel Dinheiro Com Você – By William Ribeiro gathered monthly estimates to show that the purchase selection process should consider the total cost, not just the advertised price. The simulation starts with 80% financing over 48 months.

Monthly cost goes beyond the installment

In the Renault Kwid, cited as the cheapest car in Brazil, the price is R$ 83,000. With an estimated installment of R$ 2,160, the total monthly cost reaches nearly R$ 3,300.

The account includes insurance of R$ 250, IPVA of R$ 275, maintenance of R$ 125, and fuel of R$ 470 to drive 1,000 km per month. By the 20% rule, a net monthly income of R$ 16,000 would be required.

In the Volkswagen Polo, considered at R$ 105,000, the installment rises to R$ 2,740. Adding insurance, IPVA, maintenance, and fuel, the monthly expense reaches R$ 4,000, requiring a net income of R$ 20,000.

Selection process should weigh the total cost

The Corolla Cross, calculated at R$ 180,000, would have an installment of R$ 4,700 and a total cost of R$ 6,500 per month. The required income would reach R$ 32,000, following the 20% limit.

In the Haval H9, estimated at R$ 329,000, the monthly expense goes to R$ 11,500. Meanwhile, the Toyota SW4, starting at R$ 417,000, would have a cost close to R$ 15,000 per month.

The central recommendation is to add up all expenses before signing a contract, especially when financing extends the commitment. Have you calculated how much your car consumes from your income? Share your experience in the comments and say if the full account changes your view.

The presented simulation is based on values cited by the Channel Dinheiro Com Você, in an estimative survey based on prices consulted on automaker websites and WebMotors, with 80% financing of the vehicle value in 48 installments. The calculation considers the average interest rate for vehicle purchase recorded by the Central Bank in the period used in the account, close to 28% per year, equivalent to almost 2% per month.

Also included in the estimate are monthly expenses with insurance, IPVA, maintenance, and fuel, with gasoline considered at R$ 6.60 and diesel at R$ 7.16. As it is a simulation, values may vary according to the state, driver’s profile, insurer, dealership, rate approved by the bank, vehicle version, and price practiced at the time of purchase.
