The Hyundai Casper, Classic Model of the Brand Abroad, Will Now Get an Electric Version to Compete with Big Names Like BYD Dolphin Mini.
The electric version of the compact Hyundai Casper is already in the final testing phase. The Korean brand’s micro SUV is already sold in Asia in some countries, however, with an internal combustion engine. The rival of the BYD Dolphin Mini was caught testing in extreme cold, with temperatures below -30 °C.

The electric option of the Hyundai Casper is expected to arrive in Europe in 2024, and it will have as a rival a model that is already sold in Brazil. It is the Dacia Spring, here known as the Renault Kwid E-Tech, currently the cheapest electric car in the country.
In the future, another competitor will be trailing the compact: the electric Citroën C3, a highly anticipated model over there. However, it is not known if the model will come to Brazil, at least this year. However, if it does appear, it will face strong competition from another newcomer, the BYD Dolphin Mini, soon to hit the market, and priced below R$ 100 thousand. An interesting battle among the cheapest electric models in the country, for example.

The mini SUV measures 3.60 meters in length, with a 2.40 m wheelbase, 1.59 m in width, and 1.57 m in height. The current dimensions of the model should remain the same, as the electric version of the Hyundai Casper uses the same platform as the combustion model, for example. What really changes are details between the two versions.
Hyundai Casper Delivers Nearly 400 km of Range
The front grille of the BYD Dolphin Mini rival should be closed, as there is no need for much ventilation since there is no engine, abandoning the original honeycomb shape. The tire and wheel set should be different, offering less rolling resistance and prioritizing the electric range of the model.
Either way, there is still no information on what set will drive the Hyundai Casper. European publications speculate something around 200 km of electric range, and other outlets claim it could be nearly 400 km, which is indeed interesting. However, these are not official reports.
This is good news for Europeans, as we do not have electric car options below R$ 100 thousand in Brazil. The BYD is preparing to launch the BYD Dolphin Mini for R$ 98,900, however, it would still be the only car in that price range; the second cheapest electric car would be the Caoa Chery iCar, much smaller and currently costing R$ 119,990.
BYD Dolphin Mini, Rival of the Hyundai Casper Arrives in Brazil Promising to Be the Brand’s Cheapest Electric Car
As mentioned earlier, the Dolphin Mini will be sold here in two versions, the entry-level model priced below R$ 100 thousand, which means it is set to become the cheapest in Brazil.
The model delivers 75 horsepower and up to 13.8 kgfm of torque, goes from 0 to 100 km in 14.9 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. Front-wheel drive, electric steering, and disc brakes on all four wheels.
Iron-phosphate battery (38.8 kWh or 30 kWh) with estimated ranges of 405 and 305 km, respectively in the Chinese cycle. The electric car is available in black, white, green, and rose colors. The model’s equipment list includes items such as six airbags, 16-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a 10.1-inch multimedia center, still lacking Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and a wireless charger.
