Volkswagen Presents The Concept Of The Electric SUV ID. CROSS At The Munich Motor Show, A Model Inspired By The Golf And The Kombi With A Launch Planned For 2026 And A Promise Of Competitive Pricing.
During the IAA Mobility, known as the Munich Motor Show, Volkswagen will present to the public the concept of the Electric SUV ID. CROSS. The event will take place from September 8 to 14 and was chosen by the German brand to showcase its fourth fully electrified compact concept car. The first images of the model were released on Monday, September 8, as reported by Olhar Digital.
The manufacturer, which already leads among electric car suppliers in Europe, is preparing for the global launch of the model in 2026. The strategy reinforces the company’s goal of making electric mobility more accessible on a global scale.
Design Inspired By The Brand’s Tradition
The design of the ID. CROSS was developed from iconic references of Volkswagen, such as the Golf and the Kombi. To mark the launch, the concept was revealed in the Urban Jungle green color, which conveys the brand’s new design language, aimed at conveying modernity and closeness to the consumer.

According to Andreas Mindt, head of design at Volkswagen, the inspiration comes from a unique philosophy: “We call our new design language ‘Pure Positive.’ It is based on three pillars: stability, friendliness, and a ‘secret ingredient,’ so to speak. It will characterize all new Volkswagen cars in the future.”
Global Electric Mobility Strategy
The ID. CROSS is part of the Brand Group Core campaign, the group to which Volkswagen belongs, to expand the presence of electric vehicles in the entry-level segment. This offensive also includes other concepts, such as the D.2 all, the ID. GTI Concept — derived from the ID.2 all — and the ID. EVERY1.
With this, the brand reinforces its commitment to offer increasingly technological and sustainable models, while also being accessible, broadening the base of consumers interested in electrification.
Advanced Technology In The Propulsion System
In technical terms, the ID. CROSS Electric SUV Concept features a newly developed propulsion system. It consists of two main modules: an electric motor with integrated power electronics in the front axle and a high-voltage battery positioned in the floor, in a sandwich-type format.
This motor generates 211 hp (155 kW), delivering enough power to efficiently move the front wheels. The estimated range reaches 420 km, making the model competitive against other electric SUVs in its class.
Considering practical use, the vehicle has also been designed to accommodate cyclists and travelers. The rear hitch supports up to 75 kg, allowing the transport of two electric bicycles. The towing capacity reaches 1,200 kg on an 8% incline when the vehicle uses brakes.
MEB Platform And Next-Generation Software
The modular electric propulsion matrix, known as MEB, was the chosen foundation for the electric SUV. Volkswagen announced that this platform will feature a new generation of software starting next year.
The update will bring features from higher categories, such as Enhanced Travel Assist, and will enable vehicles like the ID. CROSS or the future ID. Polo to offer advanced performance and features at affordable prices, a crucial factor for increasing global competitiveness.
Interior Designed For Comfort And Versatility
With dimensions similar to the current VW T-Cross European — 1.83 m wide and 1.58 m high — the ID. CROSS stands out for its robust build and Balboa wheels measuring 21 inches, created exclusively for the model.
Inside, the vehicle was designed for both urban use and longer trips. The trunk has a 450 liters capacity, with an additional compartment of 25 liters under the hood, designed for extra items.
The cockpit is fully digital, featuring two central screens of 11 inches and one of 13 inches for entertainment. All of them can be controlled by voice commands. Additionally, the multifunction steering wheel received a new design, with integrated control buttons.
A “Wellness Oasis” On Wheels
Volkswagen presented the interior concept as a true refuge of comfort. The surfaces are covered in fabric, and the seats can be folded down, creating a resting area that evokes the spirit of the Kombi, one of the brand’s greatest classics.
The color palette includes the Vanilla Chai tone, which harmonizes with configurable modes of light, sound, and climate. Even elements like plants projected on the central console screens are part of the proposal to transform the interior into a relaxation space during driving.
