With The Launch Of The Tugboat Inter XVIII, The Shipyard Starts Production Of Its Line Of Multi-Functional Tugboats
The Shipyard Indústria Naval Catarinense (INC), in Navegantes, launched this Thursday, 18, the multipurpose tugboat Inter XVIII.
The vessel was designed and fully developed at the shipyard in Santa Catarina, took eight months to be completed, and is considered a high-powered tugboat. It is now undergoing a series of tests in the water and will then head to Guaratuba, in Paraná, where it is expected to operate for the next few years. The INC shipyard is the division focused on shipbuilding of the holding company Internacional Marítima, operating in the North, Northeast, South, and Southeast regions.
The tugboat Inter XVIII is 20.9 meters long and 6.5 meters wide, with a depth of 3.13 meters, a gross tonnage of 109, and two engines with 829 horsepower each.

The director of the INC shipyard, Josuan Moraes Júnior, says that the vessel is an order from the holding company controlling the shipyard and that after its operations in Paraná, it will enter the spot market to perform ocean, port, and inland towing.
Josuan states that this tugboat is the first built at the shipyard, which has previously constructed other types of vessels such as barges, pontoons, passenger catamarans, and floating docks, among others. The technical team at INC has expertise gained from the construction of over a hundred tugboats at other shipyards. He adds that in addition to this tugboat for the Internacional Marítima group, INC is already working on other budgets and negotiations with shipowners for the construction of more tugboats, adding this new market segment to the shipyard’s portfolio. “This vessel marks the beginning of the INC tugboat line,” he celebrates.
INC begins this year with bold projects: in addition to new tugboats, it aims to build ferry boats for vehicles and passengers in 2024, barges for cargo transportation in ports, boats for the transportation of petroleum derivatives, as well as naval repair work and maintenance contracts, which are constant at the company.
Expertise
The INC shipyard has been operating for about six years on the left bank of the Itajaí-Açu River, in the Volta Grande neighborhood, and generates an average of 130 direct jobs between its own workforce and subcontractors. The company also has its main suppliers and service providers in the region, ensuring the movement of the entire naval construction cluster in the area.
The shipyard has the capacity to process up to 200 tons of steel per month and recently began the production of aluminum vessels.
INC will also begin the construction of a floating dock in this first quarter, which will allow for safer and more agile docking and undocking of vessels, as well as the expansion and modernization of its production area, and obtained priority funding from the merchant marine fund last December for this purpose.
