The Furniture Industry in Portugal Faces a Serious Labor Shortage, Creating Thousands of Opportunities. There Are Job Vacancies Available for Brazilians and Africans Due to the Labor Crisis in the Country.

The furniture industry in Portugal is facing a significant labor crisis, with an urgent demand to fill 3,000 vacancies in the next three to four years. This shortage creates numerous opportunities for Brazilians and professionals from other countries. Follow all the information on the labor crisis in Portugal and find out how to take advantage of these vacancies to boost your career in one of the most dynamic markets in Europe.

Crises in the Furniture Industry in Portugal Could Accelerate the Regularization Process for Brazilians

The alert about the labor crisis in Portugal was issued by Gualter Morgado, executive director of the Portuguese Association of Furniture and Related Industries (Apima), highlighting the imminent exit of workers due to retirements that will require quick replacement.

According to the executive, the furniture industry in Portugal, mainly concentrated around Porto and Braga, has turned to Brazil in search of filling its job offers.

Brazilian labor has been an alternative; however, the recruitment and adaptation process takes significant time due to the demand for specialized training. Morgado explains that the furniture industry in Portugal faces a dual challenge, the shortage of skilled workers and the slow integration process of new professionals.

He emphasizes that the recent reform in the immigration system, aimed at simplifying the regularization of Brazilians and Africans from the CPLP, has not yet effectively resolved the sector’s needs. Thus, thousands of job vacancies in Portugal for Brazilians remain open.

Difficulties That Prevent Filling Vacancies in Portugal for Brazilians

The problem of the labor crisis in Portugal is exacerbated by the phenomenon of “neither-nor”, individuals who are neither working nor looking for a job, as well as other structural obstacles such as outdated salaries in the face of housing inflation and high taxes on income and payroll.

Data from the National Institute of Statistics showed an increase in population driven by positive net migration, while natural balance remains negative, indicating a growing dependence on immigration to meet labor market demands, which has thousands of job vacancies in Portugal for Brazilians.

In light of this complex scenario in the furniture industry in Portugal, Apima and other entities in the sector have been pushing for public policies. The demands include streamlining the training and integration process of new workers, thus ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of furniture companies in Portugal in the coming years.

Other Areas with Job Vacancies in Portugal for Brazilians

Those looking to take advantage of the labor crisis in Portugal should consider other professions with more opportunities in the country.

The steep decline in the number of job offers in Portugal in the second quarter of last year compared to the same period in 2022, a reduction of 47%, also translated into a reduction of job offers for a large part of the professions between the two periods: 91% of professions recorded a decrease in the volume of offers compared to the same month in 2022.

Of the total, the areas with the most job vacancies in Portugal for Brazilians are:

  • Optical glass workers, salt workers, firework makers, manual coaters, and selectors;
  • Veterinary technicians and assistants;
  • Machine operators for manufacturing textile products, fur and leather;
  • Qualified forestry workers and similar;
  • Manual workers of textile articles, leather, and similar materials.
