The Development of the Wind Power Plant Will Be Done Jointly with the Government of RN, Both Parties Have Already Signed the Memorandum for the Agreement
Neoenergia, in partnership with the Government of Rio Grande do Norte, took an important step for the development of Brazil’s first offshore wind farm. This Tuesday (12), both parties signed a memorandum of understanding during the 14th edition of Brazil Windpower, the largest wind energy event in Latin America. This agreement aims to establish studies for offshore wind energy generation along the state’s coast and involves cooperation in various areas, including socioeconomic, environmental, technical, and regulatory, according to the website Petronotícias.
Marcelo Lopes, Director of Hydraulics and Offshore at Neoenergia, emphasized that this partnership aligns with the company’s strategy to lead the energy transition in Brazil. He highlighted the importance of establishing a regulatory framework for the offshore wind energy market in the country, which would drive the development of the industrial chain and add value to the socio-environmental attributes of this energy source.
Lopes emphasized that a solid regulatory framework would provide legal security and predictability for investors, which are essential for the growth of this market.

Governor of RN Highlights Leadership in Clean Energy
The Governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, emphasized that the signing of this memorandum is part of a series of productive interactions with Neoenergia. She expressed the intention to maintain the state’s leadership in clean energy production in Brazil, especially through the development of offshore projects and logistical support for port infrastructure.
This is the fourth memorandum of understanding signed by Neoenergia for the development of offshore wind generation in Brazil. In addition to Rio Grande do Norte, the company is conducting feasibility studies for offshore projects in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and Ceará. With a clear vision of leadership in the transition to clean energy, Neoenergia is seeking business opportunities focused on decarbonization, innovation, and advanced technologies for sustainable energy generation.
Neoenergia: Contributing to a More Sustainable Future
Currently, Neoenergia operates three wind farms in the state of Rio Grande do Norte: Mel, Arizona, and Rio do Fogo, which have been in operation since 2006. Through Neoenergia Cosern, the company provides energy to approximately 1.5 million customers in the distribution sector. Neoenergia has an installed capacity of 5.2 GW in generation, with 90% coming from renewable sources. In addition, the company is in the process of implementing another 0.2 GW with the completion of onshore wind farms.
Investment in offshore wind generation represents a significant step for Neoenergia and for Brazil in the search for a cleaner and more sustainable energy matrix. Through this partnership with the government of Rio Grande do Norte, the country advances in expanding its renewable energy generation capacity, contributing to a greener and more prosperous future.
