Asso.subsea Completes Inter-Array Cable Protection for Fécamp Offshore Wind Farms Using Different Vessels and Subsea Tools.
The 500 megawatt (MW) offshore wind project in Fécamp, on the coast of France, saw the installation and protection operations of inter-array cables completed by Asso.subsea, according to the company’s announcement. The preparation, installation, and seabed protection work was carried out by Asso.subsea, contracted by Prysmian Group, involving four different vessels and various subsea tools from the extensive company portfolio.
The Offshore Wind Projects Director at Asso.subsea, Dimitris Panagos, highlighted the importance of the project, stating that ‘this important project represents a significant milestone for Asso.subsea, being the first inter-array project the company has executed.’ He emphasized that the company successfully installed and protected a total of 71 cables, responsible for loading, transporting, installing, protecting, and burying over 118 km of subsea cables, thanks to its experience and extensive capability to execute an extremely complex project, providing a fully vertically integrated solution.

Asso.subsea stated that the project was characterized by very hard soils and demanding burial requirements, which is why it designed and built a new trenching vehicle, the AssoTrencher IV Mk13, with an innovative approach to enhance the filling capabilities. This tool successfully completed over 100 kilometers of backfilling by reusing the previously excavated material.
