The Federal Institute of Alagoas (IFAL) announced, on April 28, the opening of registrations for a new selection process for distance learning undergraduate courses, scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025. The selection includes hundreds of vacancies, with highlighting the EAD Biology course, offered free of charge and with the recognized quality of the federal education network.
The initiative represents an excellent opportunity for those who wish to enter higher education through a public, free institution with a strong academic commitment. With the distance learning modality (EAD), IFAL seeks to expand access to higher education, especially for students who live in regions far from large urban centers or who need greater flexibility in their schedules.
Applications for the selection process are made exclusively online, within the deadline established in the notice, and candidates will be evaluated according to specific criteria, in accordance with the admission policy defined by the institution. The initiative reinforces IFAL's commitment to the democratization of higher education and the training of qualified professionals in different regions of the state.

The Federal Institute's entrance exam offers a Bachelor's degree in Biology EAD with a focus on training educators capable of teaching at elementary and high school levels. Places for undergraduate EAD courses are distributed among the UAB centers in Cajueiro, Maragogi, Maceió (Centro), Palmeira dos Índios, Piranhas, Penedo, Santana do Ipanema and São José da Laje.
Those interested in participating in the selection process must have completed high school or equivalent by the date of enrollment. The notice provides for the distribution of vacancies in two modalities, namely open competition with 30% of vacancies and reservation of vacancies for affirmative actions, with 70% of vacancies for:
- Quilombolas;
- Permanent teachers in the public education system;
- Graduates of public schools;
- Disabled people;
- Black, brown and indigenous people.
Regarding the Biology EAD course, it is important to mention that it works with the objective of identifying problems that impact the teaching-learning process in biology and science, proposing solutions, understanding the teaching practice of both areas as a dynamic process and space for creation, reflection and creation of knowledge.
Furthermore, it also aims to understand the Natural and Health Sciences as human constructions, generated within a cultural, social and economic context. It is also committed to issues related to environmental preservation and improving the population's quality of life.
Registration and selection process for distance learning undergraduate courses
Registrations can be made until May 18, 2025 and must be made exclusively through the website of the Federal Institute. The entrance exam will be held in two phases. The first will be the online phase with classification based on the average of the curricular components of Portuguese and mathematics from the first and second years of high school. Then there will be the in-person phase with a writing test for candidates classified in the first phase.
It is worth noting that, although the didactic-pedagogical action mainly takes place through information and communication technology, the Biology EAD course includes in-person academic activities such as tutorials, internships, assessments, professional practices, activities in biology laboratories and thesis defense. These practical activities are essential for the complete training of the educator. The selection schedule is distributed as follows:
- Registration: until 18/05/2025;
- Preliminary result of the 1st phase: 19/05/2025;
- 1st phase resources: 20/05/2025;
- Final result of the 1st phase: 21/05/2025;
- Writing test (2nd phase): 25/05/2025 (Sunday);
- Preliminary result: 27/05/2025;
- Final result: after heteroidentification procedures.
Discover the advantages of taking an online course
For those who have doubts about IFAL's distance learning undergraduate courses, it is important to mention that there are several advantages to this type of training.
Classes can be attended at the student's convenience, allowing students to combine their studies with work and other activities depending on the course. All they need is an internet connection to follow the course, eliminating the need to travel to the educational institution.
Distance learning also expands the possibilities for education, including for those who live in regions where there are not many in-person institutions. With this modality, students develop the ability to self-manage and organize themselves to keep up with the content and deadlines of the subjects.
Furthermore, as long as the course is recognized by the MEC, the distance learning diploma has the same value as the in-person diploma. Assessments during the course may be online or in person, depending on the guidelines of the institution and the course. Students can also ask questions to teachers and other students through forums, chats and video conferences.
