Femaluma Gallery opens a 150 square meter space in Horto with an international exhibition open to the public for free

An old workers’ village in Horto, at the Botanical Garden, was chosen to host the second unit of the Femaluma Gallery.

The opening takes place this Saturday, June 20, 2026, with an exhibition featuring works by 17 contemporary artists.

Named “Between”, the exhibition brings together productions from Brazil, Mali, Portugal, and South Korea. The visit will remain free until September 1st.

The new space has 150 square meters and is located at Rua Alberto Ribeiro, number 4, in Rio de Janeiro.

According to information published by the newspaper O Globo, the opening will take place from 5 PM to 8 PM.

International project started in Cascais

The journey of the Femaluma Gallery began after Brazilians Pedro and Carolina moved to Cascais, Portugal, in 2020.

The couple identified in the Historic Center of the Portuguese city an environment marked by the presence of residents and visitors of different nationalities.

This cultural diversity inspired the creation of a gallery focused on artists from various parts of the world.

The first unit opened its doors two years ago. Since then, the project has connected emerging artists, collectors, and potential buyers.

The growth of the initiative allowed expansion to Brazil. Rio de Janeiro was chosen as the headquarters of the second international unit.

Historic workers’ village gains new cultural function

The Rio branch occupies a building belonging to the old workers’ village in Horto, in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood.

The historic property will be used to present works by Brazilian and foreign artists.

Femaluma mainly operates in the primary art market. In this model, the gallery participates in the first presentation and commercialization of the works.

The project seeks to increase the visibility of new artists while still presenting names already established in the art scene.

The combination of historical heritage and contemporary art transforms the property into a new cultural point in Rio de Janeiro.

Exhibition “Between” brings together artists from four countries

The opening show presents works by Suzana Queiroga, Frida Baranek, Joana Tubal, Seon Ghi Bahk, Marcelo Lamarca, and Famakan Magassa.

The selection also includes works by Amilcar de Castro, Rubem Valentim, Cícero Dias, Abraham Palatnik, and Wanda Pimentel.

Names like Vieira da Silva and Glauco Rodrigues are also part of the artistic ensemble presented by the gallery.

The exhibition establishes connections between different cultures, territories, generations, and moments of artistic production.

Pedro Nazar, one of the creators of Femaluma, explained that the name of the show serves as an invitation for the public to get to know the new home.

“The title ‘Between’ refers to entering our home, between continents, between cultures, and between generations, between the modern and the now.”

The concept highlights the encounter between modern art and contemporary production. The proposal also reinforces the approach between artists from different origins.

Free entry expands public access

The exhibition “Between” will remain on display until September 1, 2026.

Free entry allows residents, tourists, and art enthusiasts to view the works and the new cultural space.

The visitation model also helps bring the public closer to national and international artists.

The official opening will be held this Saturday, June 20, between 5 PM and 8 PM.
