ENI and YPF Sign Strategic Agreement for Liquefaction and Export of Natural Gas from Vaca Muerta, Expanding Argentina’s Energy Potential in the Global Market.

The Argentine state-owned company YPF and the Italian group ENI took an important step in the global energy landscape. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a project for the transportation, liquefaction, and export of natural gas sourced from the Vaca Muerta region in Patagonia.

The agreement was formalized on Monday (14), during a meeting in Milan between Claudio Descalzi, CEO of ENI, and Horacio Marín, President and CEO of YPF. The project is part of the “Argentina GNL” plan, which aims to transform the country into a gas exporting hub.

The Vaca Muerta basin is one of the largest reserves of unconventional natural gas in the world. Its exploration has the potential to reposition Argentina as a key player in the global energy sector.

ENI is one of the largest energy companies in the world, operating in 69 countries with a focus on sustainable solutions and decarbonization.

By investing in Vaca Muerta, the company reaffirms its commitment to energy diversification and the transition to a low-carbon future.

“We are extremely happy to sign this agreement with ENI, which will allow us to accelerate the timelines of the Argentina GNL project. We are seeing remarkable interest globally, both from major production companies and from countries,” emphasized Horacio Marín.

Claudio Descalzi highlighted the selection of YPF as a strategic decision based on the competence of the Argentine state-owned company and the region’s potential.

The project aims to create a complete logistics chain for the export of liquefied natural gas, including transportation infrastructure and liquefaction plants.

In addition to boosting the local economy, the initiative also strengthens Argentina’s positioning as a reliable supplier of clean and accessible energy.
