In the week of World Environment Day, the JBS Fund for the Amazon announced the first projects chosen to receive investments to promote forest conservation and preservation actions, improve the quality of life of local communities and scientific and technological development in the region. There will be six initiatives that, together, will receive R$ 50 million from the Fund, set up by JBS in September last year, with a contribution of R$ 250 million over five years. JBS projects in the Amazon
The JBS Fund for the Amazon has the objective of boosting the promotion of forest conservation and preservation actions and the sustainable development of the region. The organization analyzed more than 50 project ideas among the proposals received by the website or prospected by the team.
Nine initiatives were invited to make pre-projects, which were analyzed by the JBS Technical Committee, made up of 11 members appointed by research institutes and third sector organizations. They are outstanding professionals in the environmental and sustainable development area, with extensive experience in the Amazonian reality and who have already carried out work with relevant impacts in the Amazon region.
The purpose of the contributions to be made in the Amazon
According to Joanita Maestri Karoleski, president of the JBS Fund for the Amazon, the projects that will receive JBS investments will develop the bioeconomy of the forest, helping to add value to natural products, and also contributing to the preservation of the environment and development socioeconomic.
Andrea Azevedo, director of programs and projects at the Fund, said that one of the focuses of the projects was to support those who value those who are at the base of the forest chains, such as extractivists, indigenous peoples and other traditional communities that manage community businesses.
The six projects supported by the JBS Fund for the Amazon
The first six initiatives chosen by the JBS Fund for the Amazon will work on a wide range of activities in the biome. The implementation of agroforestry systems, which transform areas of cultivation and livestock in areas that absorb carbon, will occur through the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices.
The pirarucu and açaí chains will be strengthened by investments in production certification, added value in processing and training in community business management.
