What are the Labubus?
The Labubus are plush dolls with an eccentric appearance, curious expression, and serrated teeth.
The characters were created in 2015 by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung.
In recent months, the dolls have gained strong traction on social media and started appearing among celebrities.
Rihanna, Maya Massafera, Virginia Fonseca, and Marina Ruy Barbosa have been seen using Labubus hanging on bags.
This movement helped turn the dolls into objects of desire among fashion, pop culture, and collectible fans.
Surprise boxes increase collectors’ interest
One of the main attractions of the Labubus is the sale format in surprise boxes.
In this model, the buyer only discovers which character they received after opening the package.
The experience mixes anticipation, luck, and desire for rare versions.
Depending on the collection, the consumer may find common models or more difficult-to-obtain characters.
This dynamic helped boost the popularity of the dolls and strengthened Pop Mart’s presence in the international market.
According to Forbes, the characters helped the Chinese manufacturer earn more than $2.3 billion after the partnership involving the collectibles.
Counterfeits increased before the official arrival
Until now, Pop Mart products were not officially sold in Brazil.
The high demand for Labubus opened space for the circulation of counterfeit versions in the national market.
With the doll craze on social media, replicas began to be easily found in the country.
According to g1, copies of the dolls were sold in the 25 de Março region, in São Paulo, for values between R$ 65 and R$ 250.
Meanwhile, an original Labubu cost up to $300 in June of last year, equivalent to about R$ 1,600.
The official arrival, therefore, seeks to offer consumers a regularized alternative, with access to the brand’s original products.
Candide bets on the official experience in the country
The national distribution will be conducted by Candide, the company responsible for officially bringing Pop Mart products to Brazil.
For the company, the debut represents a way to meet a demand that already existed among Brazilian consumers.
“The time has come to offer this experience officially, with broad access and the quality that the brand represents,” said Moise Candi, CEO of Candide.
From now on, the Labubus officially occupy Brazilian shelves.
The debut also reinforces the growth of the collectibles market in the country, especially among consumers influenced by digital trends.
What to expect from the arrival of the Labubus in Brazil?
The official sale of the Labubus may change the way Brazilian consumers access Pop Mart products.
Before the partnership with Candide, those who wanted to buy the figures had to resort to imports, resales, or unofficial versions.
Now, the items have national distribution, presence in shopping malls, and specialized points in different regions.
The demand is expected to remain high, mainly because of the surprise box model and the possible rare versions.
Collectors are following the arrival of the products in stores, attentive to prices, available collections, and the chance to find special characters.
