ABDI and Nexus Survey Reveals That 75% of Brazilians Trust the Green Economy and See Renewable Energies as the Main Opportunity for Generating Sustainable Jobs. Young People and Those with Higher Education Are the Most Optimistic.

The transition to a sustainable economy — based on renewable energies and clean technologies — has broad popular support in Brazil. According to a survey released by the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) in partnership with Nexus, three out of four Brazilians believe that the green economy will bring new jobs.

The survey indicates that 75% of respondents trust that the shift to a sustainable economic model will be accompanied by job opportunities, while only 16% express pessimism about this scenario. The research reinforces that the advancement of clean energies is seen not only as an environmental response but also as a solid alternative for social and economic growth.

Positive Expectations Across All Income Levels

According to the study, the perception that the green economy can boost the job market is stronger among higher-income individuals. Among those earning more than five minimum wages, 78% believe that the sustainable transition will create new positions. The same percentage is observed among those earning two to five minimum wages, followed by 76% among individuals with income between one and two minimum wages.

Even among workers earning up to one minimum wage, optimism remains high: 67% expect an improvement in job availability. These numbers indicate that confidence in the expansion of renewable energies is widespread across all social strata, albeit with different intensities.

Education and Professional Qualification Influence Perception

The study also highlights that education has a direct impact on the outlook for the green economy. Among Brazilians with completed higher education, 79% believe that the transition to a sustainable model will increase job generation. Among those who completed high school, 78% share this opinion, while 68% of respondents with completed elementary education believe that the green economy will bring improvements to the job market.

According to Ricardo Cappelli, president of ABDI, the advancement of renewable energies will require more qualified and better-paid professionals.

“Thus, it is natural that those with more education and income perceive better the opportunities that this change can bring,” he emphasized in an official statement.

The leader’s remarks reinforce the importance of investing in technical and technological education to keep up with the growing demand for professionals prepared to operate in the low-carbon economy.

Gender, Age, and Region Also Shape Brazilians’ Optimism

The survey shows marked differences in perception among demographic groups. Men are more likely (59%) to believe in the creation of new jobs through the green economy than women (49%).

Age also influences views on the subject. The younger individuals, aged 16 to 24 years, are the most optimistic: 62% believe that renewable energies will open new opportunities. The same pattern holds true among those aged 25 to 40 years (59%). Among those aged 41 to 59 years, the confidence rate drops to 49%, and among those over 60 years, it reaches 46%.

Regionally, the numbers remain high. In the Southeast and South, 78% of respondents believe that the green economy will boost employment. In the North and Central-West, the rate reaches 73%. In the Northeast, 67% of residents show the same confidence in the transformative power of renewable energies.

Study Confirms Positive Perception of a Sustainable Future

The ABDI and Nexus survey, conducted between July 14 and 21 of this year, interviewed 2,021 people aged 18 and over across 27 Brazilian states through in-person interviews. The results reinforce that the energy transition, based on clean sources such as solar, wind, and biomass, is not only an environmental trend but a concrete hope for economic and social development.

With the majority of Brazilians believing that the adoption of renewable energies will bring jobs, income, and progress, the country shows greater alignment with the global movement for sustainability and the green economy.
