The Case Occurred on the Oil Tanker JOÃO CÂNDIDO Recently With 5 Transport Workers. Father and Son of One of Them Died While Embarked

Some seafarers contacted the CPG, expressing dissatisfaction with Transpetro after being dismissed upon disembarking from one of its long-haul vessels recently. According to the website Marine Traffic, the oil tanker is at the Port of Suape, in Recife-PE at the time of publication of this article, we still could not confirm if the test happened there. Click Petróleo e Gás received an official statement from the Carrier, which will be possible to review after the report of the situation.

According to the information received, the crew members had been on board the long-haul vessel João Candido for about 8 months, whereas the maximum allowed and agreed upon in the agreement would be 3 months.

Due to the exceptionally extended schedule, psychological and emotional factors began to affect the dismissed seafarers, as they saw alcoholic beverages at that moment as a means to relieve tension, worries, and other factors. Furthermore, the father and son of one of these seafarers died while he was on board the ship.

It is worth noting that the crew members caught in the breathalyzer test on the João Candido ship do not exempt themselves from blame, but criticize Transpetro’s insensitivity to understand and overlook all the factors that led to their dismissal.

In Transpetro’s policies regarding alcoholic beverages, the transport, commercialization, and consumption of such are prohibited on any ship in its fleet.
