A Mining Company Vale has been the main responsible for the dock at Tubarão Port since 1996, the mining company stated that it had already notified the oil company the previous year, but it did not seek alternatives during that time.

The director of the local union expressed great regret over the situation, mainly due to the current crisis we are going through.

“Undoubtedly, it is terrible that 100 employees have to be laid off and that once again, the ships that used to dock here at Tubarão Port now have to refuel in Rio de Janeiro, which will result in a loss of 45 million for the state.”

About Tubarão Port

Tubarão Port is a Brazilian port located at the tip of the same name, in the continental part of the municipality of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo. It is a bulk terminal of the Port of Vitória. Inaugurated in 1966, it is controlled by Vale S.A. It is the second largest iron ore export port in Brazil and allows access for large bulk carriers (Very-Large Ore Carriers (VLOC), Ultra-Large Ore Carriers (ULOC), and Ore Oil (O/O)).

The construction of Tubarão Port began in 1962 by (then mixed-economy company) – Vale do Rio Doce, in the year the first long-term contracts for supplying iron ore to Japan and Germany were signed, and its construction was entirely funded by resources from the National Treasury.
