Applications Open for Professional Master’s in Sociology from MEC: Free Course for Teachers!
The National Network Professional Master’s Degree in Sociology (PROFSOCIO) from MEC is open for applications for the 2024 National Access Exam, with simultaneous offerings at various higher education institutions across Brazil. The program offers 240 fully free slots, targeted at teachers working in the public basic education network.
This is an excellent opportunity to enhance qualifications in sociology, with classes scheduled to start in 2025. The course is especially aimed at teachers in the fields of Human Sciences and Social Applied Sciences, providing high-level continuing education.
The PROFSOCIO focuses primarily on the ongoing training of teachers who work in sociology or related disciplines. The free course from MEC aims to equip these professionals with advanced teaching and research techniques. The structure of the free course is face-to-face, with a total workload of 360 hours, spread over 24 months.

The MEC Master’s Program offers 240 free slots, distributed among 15 Higher Education Institutions (IES) in various regions of the country. The slots are distributed as follows across some participating institutions:

- State University of Vale do Acaraú (UVA), Sobral – CE: 15 slots
- São Paulo State University (UNESP), Marília – SP: 14 slots
- Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Campina Grande – PB: 11 slots
- Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Juiz de Fora – MG: 15 slots
- Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP), Macapá – AP: 20 slots
This distribution of slots facilitates the participation of professionals from various regions, allowing teachers from different states to join the in-person course in their locality.
Selection Process: Stages and Criteria
The selection of candidates for the free MEC course PROFSOCIO will be conducted in two stages. The first phase consists of evaluating the letter of intentions, which will account for 40% of the final score. In this letter, candidates should present their professional and academic background, along with a research proposal aligned with the teaching of sociology.
In the second stage, the defense of the letter of intentions will take place virtually through a video call, lasting up to 30 minutes. The defense will account for 60% of the final score. To pass, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 7 in both phases. Although there are no reserved slots for quotas, some institutions may adopt affirmative action policies.
Who Can Apply for the Free MEC Course
The slots are exclusively targeted at teachers working in the public basic education network, in the fields of Human Sciences and Social Applied Sciences. Additionally, candidates must hold a recognized degree and diploma from MEC.
Applications should be made online, requiring candidates to have access to the internet and devices with a camera for the virtual stages. The application fee is R$ 100.00.
