Don't miss this chance to improve your knowledge of the language and immerse yourself in Brazilian culture without leaving home!

Learning a new language can open doors, but mastering Portuguese, considered one of the most complex languages in the world, is a challenge that many foreigners face when communicating in Brazil.

Now, imagine being able to improve your Portuguese without spending a cent, and still with the flexibility of studying from home! It sounds like a dream, but it is exactly what it is. Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) is offering.

With a total of 300 places, the Portuguese as an Additional Language Course (PLA) promises to serve Spanish and English speakers interested in improving their skills in the Brazilian language.

The initiative is free, 100% online and registration is open from December 18, 2024.

Free and flexible course

According to Notice No. 103/2024, published on December 10, the course will last 250 hours and will be taught entirely online, through the Moodle platform, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for students of different profiles and locations.

The PLA is structured in modules that meet different levels of knowledge and objectives of participants:

  • E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for Spanish Speakers – Module 1: Recommended for those who have basic knowledge of Spanish, but have never attended a formal Portuguese course.
  • E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for Spanish Speakers – Module 2: Aimed at those who already have previous experience in the language and can prove certification in a previous course.
  • E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for Anglophones: Available in different modules, adjusted to the schedules and needs of English speakers.

Each class will have two weekly online meetings, over 15 school weeks, with classes lasting up to two hours to facilitate the assimilation of content.

Who can apply?

According to the Federal Institute, the course is open to anyone interested in learning Portuguese as an additional language.

It is not necessary to reside in Brazil or be part of the IFSP internal community to register.

The only requirements are: having an Identification Document with a valid CPF or Passport and, in the case of Module 2, presenting proof of certification from the previous course.

The initiative aims not only to teach the basics of the Portuguese language, but also to facilitate cultural integration in Brazil.

According to the notice, the course seeks to enrich the linguistic repertoire of participants and promote interaction with Brazilian culture.

Registration and selection process

Registration for the course begins on the day December 18, 2024, at 9:10 am (Brasília time), and will run until February 2025, 23, at 59:XNUMX pm. Interested parties must fill out the form available at the end of the article.

Selection will be made in order of registration, giving priority to the first candidates who meet the requirements described in the notice. If all vacancies are not filled, there will be no waiting list.

Those selected will receive an email confirming their registration and will have until February 27, 2025 to complete it.

The course is scheduled to start on March 17, 2025 and end on July 5 of the same year.

An opportunity for cultural and academic learning

The IFSP course is more than just a chance to learn Portuguese. It represents an opportunity for cultural inclusion and to expand knowledge about Brazilian society.

The interactive approach and modular division ensure that learning is efficient and adapted to the needs of students.

Furthermore, the free online format eliminates financial and geographical barriers, allowing people from different parts of the world to participate.

I really wanted to, I've always been interested because even though I'm not a teacher or anything else that requires it in a professional sense

The link doesn't work, I think it's because the vacancies have already been filled (this information came to me on 19/12, so unfortunately I think I arrived too late 😢)
