With Tests Scheduled for January 2026, the New Concours of the Penal Police of Minas Gerais Offers 1,178 Vacancies and Initial Salary of R$ 5,332.64

The Government of Minas Gerais has opened a new public competition to strengthen the staff of the prison system. The announcement, published this Friday (3/10) in the State Official Gazette, provides for the hiring of 1,178 new penal police officers through the State Secretariat of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp).

Applications will be open from December 2 to 22, and the tests will be held on January 25, 2026. The initial salary is R$ 5,332.64, plus a cost allowance for food per working day. According to the government, the aim is to increase the workforce and guarantee more security and efficiency in the prison system of Minas Gerais.

Expansion and Valorization of the Career

This is the second announcement issued by the current state administration, which has already resulted in the hiring of nearly 5,000 penal police officers. The Deputy Governor Mateus Simões highlighted the joint effort to strengthen the category.

“It was with much effort and dedication that we were able to meet our penal police officers’ needs. Security in the prison system is a priority, and today we take another step in that direction,” he stated in a social media post.

The Secretary of Justice and Public Security, Rogério Greco, also emphasized the importance of the measure. “Launching another competition for penal police officers in Minas Gerais is a fundamental step to strengthen our institution. With a force of about 17,000 professionals, we need to expand this team with quality, so that the penal police of Minas Gerais is recognized as the best in the country,” he declared.

Goal to Reach the Maximum Number of Effective Officers

According to the Director General of the State Academy of Public Safety (Aesp), Marco Matos, the opening of new vacancies represents a historic milestone.

“With the new vacancies, we will reach the maximum cap of penal police officers authorized by law, a rare achievement among police forces in Brazil. This will provide greater security to the prison units throughout the state, as well as increase the efficiency and quality of the services provided,” he affirmed.

The Director General of the Penitentiary Department of Minas Gerais (Depen-MG), Leonardo Mattos Alves Badaró, highlighted the role of the competition in consolidating career development. “We need new talents to reinforce work standards and spread values that elevate the respect and recognition of the institution. The competition will bring in agents committed to their role as guarantors of law and rights,” he concluded.

Structure of the Prison System in Minas Gerais

Currently, the prison system of Minas has about 17,000 penal police officers and technical-administrative staff who work in 166 prison units. Their work includes addressing the health, education, legal assistance, and religious needs of detainees.

In addition to conventional teams, the penal police of Minas has specialized groups, such as the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR), the Aerial Patrol Group (GPAER), the K9 Operations Group (GOC), the Tactical Prison Escort Group (Getap), and the Special Operations Command (Cope). All operate based on the rational use of force and respect for human rights, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a modern and efficient prison management.
