With the Use of Technologies, Mining Companies Will Be Able to Exponentially Reduce Their Spending on Idle Employees. All of This Through Complex Logistical Piling.
Through a press conference, Icro Group, a Brazilian mining company, stated that it is developing a series of techniques aimed at optimization and productivity increase in mines, along with a reduction of at least 63% in corrective maintenance time. The research conducted considered the results of using a Vibrating Screen as a basis. According to the institution, greater logistics processes and the use of technological tools can ensure that employees are less idle, improving the resolution of failures during the performance of certain functions.
The Vibrating Screen is a tool widely used in the industry for the separation of coal, which has already accumulated an increase of at least 103% over the last year. Technically called granulometry, this tool allows for separation to be carried out in various ways, including by mineral size. By increasing its physical availability, they managed to significantly reduce more than 63% of downtime for corrective maintenance as planned by the Qualitative and Quantitative Reliability Engineering. In other words, when a machine is taken offline for maintenance, there will be another one operating, allowing all employees to stay active.
The Corrective Maintenance of the Vibrating Screen Decreased from 536 Hours to About 190 Hours, Both Icro Group and the Mining Sector Celebrate.
The potential gain from the reduction of corrective maintenance of the Vibrating Screen reached over US$ 88 million, considering there was at least a 63% reduction in hours spent on corrections. Most of the problems related to machinery, according to the research carried out by the institution, were linked to defects in the beam 45%; and defects in the side plate, 23%. About 14% were related to other failures.

Icro Group stated that it is not enough to just increase the availability of machinery but also to manage at least three main pillars within the institution, which are: people, Processes, and Technology. All three pillars are currently part of Industry 4.0.
The leader of Development, Strategy, and Innovation at Icro Group, Armando Marsarioli, stated during the press conference that machine downtime outside the expected period has been causing a series of damages to the mining market. And this impacts the costs and risks raised by institutions in the segment. Everything must be extremely calculated and well thought out to increase productivity and profitability, he states. The main benefit of discovering new technologies is to achieve an exponential reduction in costs to maintain machinery, allowing for greater profits at the end of each quarter.
Why is this category of development becoming increasingly important for the Brazilian economy? According to data revealed by the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), productivity in the Brazilian mining sector increased by 7% from 2020 to 2021, reaching over 1.1 billion tons.
