Government Discarded Reducing Biodiesel Blend to Curb Diesel Price Hike “We Will Not Make Any Mistake at This Moment of Economic Recovery,” Said the Minister.
The Federal Government ruled out, last Wednesday (10/3), the possibility of reducing the mandatory biodiesel blend percentage in diesel as a way to face the rising prices in the domestic market. The information was released by the Brazilian Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobio), in a statement. The blend reduction had been requested by the National Transportation Confederation (CNT) last week.

The Government’s Decision to Maintain the Mandatory Biodiesel Blend Percentage in Diesel Benefits the Agribusiness
“From an Economic Standpoint, the Reduction Could Impact Diesel Costs, Which Would Be Good for Farmers. For Soybean Growers, It Will Be Another Marketing Option, Since 44 Million Tons of the Grain Are Intended for Oil Production.”
From an Environmental Perspective, Maintaining the Blend Percentage Shows Credibility in Upholding the Goals Set in the Paris Agreement. “The Brazilian Cbios Market Reached 18 Million Certificates Issued in 2020, Which Corresponds to a Reduction of 18 Million Tons in Greenhouse Gases, Which Brazil Will Use to Show That We Have a Clean Fuel Model,” Completes Canal Rural Commentator Benedito Rosa.
The Request from the National Transportation Confederation (CNT) Was for a 50% Cut in the Mandate Established in the Country, Set at 13%. According to the CNT, If the Biodiesel Blend in Diesel Were to Drop to 7%, Fuel Prices Would Decline by 4.1%. If the Blend Were Reduced to 6%, the Drop Would Be 4.8%.
Representatives of Biofuel Producers React on Social Media
Representatives of Biofuel Producers Reacted. On Their Social Media, Abiove Stated That CNT Tried to “Transfer to Another Sector the Responsibility to Correct Diesel Price Increases Resulting from the International Oil Price and the Devaluation of the Real Against the Dollar.”
In Aprobio’s Assessment, the Government’s Statement Made Last Wednesday Removes “Any Doubt About the Risk of Reducing the Biodiesel Blend in Diesel.” “We Thank the Government’s Sensitivity and Reaffirm the Sector’s Commitment to Continue Investment Plans in Production Growth, Benefiting the Entire Agribusiness Chain Involved and Generating Jobs,” Said the Chairman of the Entity’s Board, Erasmo Carlos Battistella.
