The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, said on Thursday (19) that he spoke yesterday with the Secretary of the São Paulo government, Gilberto Kassab, about the Port of Santos. The conversation continues with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican), who spoke with Lula about the matter last week.
Taking the opportunity, Tarcísio told Broadcast that Lula has not closed the doors to the privatization project, although he is aware of the delicacy of the issue for the PT government. This Friday (20), the Minister of Ports and Airports reiterated that he is abandoning the sale of the port authority, but acknowledged the possibility of assigning specific services currently controlled by state-owned companies.
“The winning thesis of the elections is contrary to this logic of selling the port authority. We discussed the privatization of services that may eventually include new services such as, for example, dredging”, França told journalists after leaving a meeting with the head of the Civil House, Miriam Belchior.

He also said that a meeting of the port council will be held next week so that the government can change the direction of the terminal company. “Since we have not made changes to the port authorities, the sitting directors are as they are; starting this week, with the changes, next week all the port commissions will meet to change the direction of the ports, and then we will begin our path,” he said.

Regarding the conversation with Kassab about Port Santos, he said the conversation was to connect ideas and concepts. “My impression is that Governor Tarcísio himself understands that the logic of privatizing power is outdated due to electoral changes,” he stated. He also mentioned the project for the dry tunnel between Santos and Guarujá, which is included in the privatization model of the Port. According to him, “it’s just a matter of making a bid”. “It’s the basic administrative project that the state government is undertaking. Just need to put it out to tender. It would be a great achievement if we could accomplish this, starting with a project of this magnitude,” said the Minister of Ports and Airports.
As Broadcast has already indicated, one of Tarcísio de Freitas‘ ideas for the dry tunnels, if the privatization of the port does not advance, is to create a public-private partnership (PPP) to enable the work, with negative NPV.
