Rival Car Manufacturer to Fiat Is on the Verge of Bankruptcy. After the Failure in Sales of Its Vehicles, the Fisker Ocean May Leave the Automotive Market Soon and Close Its Doors Forever.
Fisker, a car manufacturer rival to Fiat, may be on borrowed time. According to information from Quatro Rodas Portal, the manufacturer declared that the production of the Fisker Ocean remains halted and assumes that there will be no further production due to a billion-dollar debt. Production was interrupted at the beginning of March, and at that time, the pause was supposed to last only 6 weeks, but that deadline has already passed.
Fisker’s Billion-Dollar Debt May Lead the Company to Bankruptcy
The rival car manufacturer to Fiat issued a statement about the suspension and also commented on the threat of a reduction of 400 million dollars, equivalent to about R$ 2 billion in our currency. According to the brand, production is currently halted, and its current outlook, recently released, assumes that there will be no further production.

In March, the problematic electric vehicle startup founded by Henrik Fisker hired bankruptcy consultants to assist with a possible recovery filing, according to information from The Wall Street Journal. The company produced about 10,000 units of the Ocean electric SUV, and around half of them were sold.

Nissan May Be Interested in Helping Fisker Avoid Bankruptcy
Fisker had to cut its production in December due to weak demand and a sales model that wasn’t working. The WSJ reports that Fisker wants to change from a direct sales model to a dealership model, but it’s unclear if it will survive long enough to do so.
The company reported a debt of US$ 1 billion (R$ 4.97 billion) in its latest report, meaning that many sales of the model will be needed to recover. The startup also stated that it will not be able to develop new models without the help of a major manufacturer.
Rumors indicate that Nissan could be interested, but there is no certainty about what the Japanese company would gain from a deal with the rival car manufacturer to Fiat.
Fisker’s Stock Falls 97% Since Its Initial Public Offering
Partner Magna, a contract manufacturer that builds the Ocean along with other products for older brands like Mercedes-Benz, lists its dealings with Fisker as one of its financial risks.
The car manufacturer’s stock price has fallen more than 97% since its initial public offering, as noted by the Wall Street Journal. It has no new products close to production, and even ignoring the issues, most critics did not find the Ocean particularly appealing.
As its manufacturing is outsourced to Magna in Austria, it does not have a production facility in the United States to serve as a key asset or to produce electric cars that qualify for federal tax credits. The company is in troubled waters, and if the WSJ report is correct, it seems to be preparing the lifeboats.
