Honda Motorcycle That Shifts Gears Automatically in Brazil? Meet the Honda NC 750X DCT, Model That Promises to Deliver Dual Clutch and Automated Gear Shifts.

The Honda NC was launched in the Brazilian market in 2012, still with its 700 cm³ engine. Over time, the motorcycle evolved, with the engine growing to 750 cm³ in 2015 and, in 2022, it had the option of a dual-clutch transmission, called DCT, which transforms it into a motorcycle that shifts gears automatically in Brazil.

Understand How the Honda Motorcycle That Shifts Gears Automatically Works

Since the end of 2023, the Honda NC 750X DCT version, a motorcycle that shifts gears automatically in Brazil, has been produced in Manaus (AM), just as happened months earlier with the CRF 1100L Africa Twin DCT. Until then, all of the brand’s motorcycles equipped with automatic transmissions were produced only in Japan. Now, only the X-ADV 750 is fully shipped from there.

This does not change anything for the consumer, as the model has the same price. The operation of the Honda motorcycle that shifts gears automatically is relatively complex, however, its use is absolutely simple. As the name suggests, it is not an automatic transmission. It is automated, meaning it has the same gears as any traditional transmission.

What changes in the Honda NC 750X DCT is that the system has two clutches, one for even gears and another for odd ones. This way, when one gear is engaged and in action, the next is already pre-engaged, whether it is a higher or lower gear. Therefore, when the sensors detect through the engine rotations that it is time to shift gears, the system does so automatically, in a fraction of a second.

What Is It Like to Ride the New Honda NC 750X DCT?

All the complicated work is done by the DCT system. The rider only presses a few buttons, feeling the engagement of the gears, but this ends up being very smooth. The system of the motorcycle that shifts gears automatically alternates up or down, according to the engine rotations and, consequently, in tune with the requests made by the rider through the throttle.

If the rider brakes gently and the vehicle slows down, the transmission of the Honda motorcycle that shifts gears automatically downshifts. If the rider accelerates gently, the motorcycle gains speed and soon the DCT will upshift. If the user accelerates more “brutally,” the transmission of the Honda NC 750X DCT downshifts to provide more torque.

It is important to mention that the transmission of the NC 750X DCT was first presented in 2008 at the Milan Motorcycle Show, still as a conceptual technology in development.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Honda NC 750X DCT uses a Diamond Frame tubular chassis that was reworked in the 2022 update, making the crossover 6 kg lighter. The key difference lies in the way it was built. Being a scooter chassis, the same as the X-ADV carries, it is lower.

Together with the engine that is placed almost horizontally, they create space for the 22 l luggage compartment instead of the fuel tank. To refuel the motorcycle that shifts gears automatically in Brazil, just open the compartment located under the passenger seat. The new Honda NC 750X DCT costs R$ 58,346, in Victory Red or Ibiuna Silver Metallic.
