A driver tried to bypass a speeding ticket by adopting an unusual strategy: he repainted the vehicle in an attempt to deceive the traffic cameras. The action, however, was discovered by the authorities, who are now investigating the case as attempted fraud.
A French driver tried to escape a hefty fine using an unusual method: repainting his vehicle. The man is accused of painting his Porsche 911 another color after being caught speeding and ignoring a police order to stop.
The High-Speed Escape to Avoid the Fine
The incident occurred on June 2 of last year in southwestern France. Police were using a radar to monitor speed on the road, where the limit was 80 km/h. A bright green Porsche 911 was detected at 188 km/h.
The speed immediately drew attention. A nearby police team was called to intercept the vehicle.

However, when signaling for the driver to stop, he continued accelerating and drove past the officers. Unable to note the license plate, the agents could only report the model and color of the car.
The Surprise at the Police Station
As the green Porsche was uncommon in the area, the police quickly identified a suspect. When he was called to the station, the officers found a surprise: the car was now gray.
The 40-year-old man claimed he could not be held responsible, alleging that he had a flat tire on the day of the incident and that his car was not used.
Nevertheless, the police decided to investigate further. During the vehicle inspection, they found visible green paint stains in some parts of the bodywork.
They also discovered that the car had passed a technical inspection days before the episode, still in its original color.
The technician responsible for the inspection confirmed that the vehicle was green at the time.
Partial Confession and Consequences
Faced with the evidence, the driver eventually confessed to having indeed driven over the speed limit and that he tried to deceive the police by painting the car. However, he denied disobeying a direct order from the authorities and stated that he never saw the stop signal.
The police seized the vehicle while the case is still under investigation. The driver’s identity has not been disclosed for legal reasons.
The man could face serious consequences. According to French legislation, exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h can result in a fine of up to 1,300 euros, suspension of the license, and even confiscation of the car. In cases of disobedience and endangerment of others’ lives, penalties increase to up to 15,000 euros and two years in prison.
