Harley-Davidson Plans to Launch Only Electric Motorcycles in the Future, Which Is Important for the Environment and Can Contribute to a Cleaner and More Sustainable World.
The Harley-Davidson is a motorcycle brand known for its classic bikes with combustion engines; however, recently the company’s CEO announced plans to focus on electric motorcycles in the future. This means that they intend to stop making motorcycles with combustion engines and will dedicate themselves solely to electric bikes.
Over the past few years, Harley-Davidson has gradually expanded the scope of its efforts to launch electric motorcycles. After several years of research and development, the first electric motorcycle available for purchase was the LiveWire.
The riding qualities and performance of the model powered completely by electricity received excellent feedback from customers, but the price of R$ 150,000 led many people to express dissatisfaction.

We caught a glimpse of the future of electric motorcycles planned by LiveWire in early 2022 when Harley-Davidson was planning to complete its merger with the company to make LiveWire public after the SPAC completion. During this period, the S2 Del Mar and the limited edition Launch Edition were presented.
The Harley-Davidson S2 motorcycles are mid-weight electric bikes, and their timeline also discusses the lightweight electric S3 bikes that were created in collaboration with KYMCO. After all this, it added, the electric S4 line would focus on producing large electric motorcycles similar to the combustion models that have been the main source of revenue for Harley since its inception.
Although this information has been readily available for some time, no announcement has been made about the company’s plans for combustion engines until now. However, in an interview with the design newspaper Dezeen this January 2023, the president and CEO of Harley-Davidson stated that the company is in the process of transitioning to fully electric vehicles at some point in the future.
Harley-Davidson Executive Did Not Set a Date but Said That the Company’s Total Electrification Process Has Already Begun and That It Plans to Launch Only Electric Motorcycles in the Future
Despite emphasizing that this will not happen quickly and that he has not set a target for the project’s realization (as some other companies do), he clearly indicated that the work has already begun.
“Harley-Davidson will be fully electric, as this is a change that will take place over a considerable period of time,” he continued explaining how he wanted to honor the past while still growing with it, and also commented on how Harley-Davidson intends to launch only electric motorcycles in the future and that this will be done at a natural pace.
As part of this transformation, the brand is striving to attract new customers, whether they have ambitious goals or not. The growth of clothing lines, for example, is one way in which the brand is attracting the attention of individuals who do not fit its target audience and may have never ridden a motorcycle of any kind in their lives.
Electric motorcycles are important because they are more environmentally friendly than bikes with combustion engines. They do not emit pollutants such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which affect air quality and contribute to global warming.
Furthermore, they are quieter and do not require fossil fuels, which can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and protect natural resources. Harley-Davidson’s electric bikes may be more efficient and have lower maintenance costs, as 100% electric models do not require oil, air filters, and other regular maintenance items.
