The Brazilian Northeast Will Gain the Largest Solar and Wind Farm in South America; the Project Will Be Built by the Energy Company Enel and Will Generate Many Jobs in the State of Piauí.
The Brazilian Northeast will be a reference in renewable energy; the Italian Enel, which operates in electric energy generation and distribution as well as natural gas distribution, will build the largest wind and solar farm in South America, in the state of Piauí, generating thousands of jobs in the region. The plants will be built in the municipalities of Lagoa do Barro and São Gonçalo do Gurguéia (PI), in the Northeast. The solar and wind energy parks will avoid the emission of over two million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually.
The first phase of the project began operations back in 2020, when the São Gonçalo Plant already generated about 475 MW. Now, the first expansion of the park is being finalized, putting Brazil ahead in this sector in Latin America.

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

Fortescue announces a radical shift by replacing diesel with a system featuring 1.2 GW of solar energy, 600 MW of wind energy, and up to 5 GWh in batteries, a giant project that could save $100 million per year and transform heavy mining into one of the largest 100% renewable operations in the world by 2028.

Canadian engineers want to compress air in underground caverns and build plants of up to 500 MW that function as giant lungs to store renewable energy for hours and stabilize entire electrical grids.
The goal is to reach 608 MW, which will enable the park to generate more than 1,500 GWh per year, avoiding an annual emission of over 860 thousand tons of CO2. In addition to wind energy, the park uses bifacial solar modules that capture solar energy from both sides of the panel.
The wind farm has been named Lagoa dos Ventos and will feature 230 wind turbines that, when fully operational, can generate more than 3.3 TWh per year!
“We can say that, in the wind energy ranking, Piauí ranks fifth among the largest producers of this type of energy in Brazil, only behind Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Sul; regarding solar energy, we are third, but we are the state that is building the most and has the most promising future in terms of generating this energy,” celebrates Wilson Brandão, Secretary of State for Mining, Oil, and Renewable Energies.
In addition to avoiding carbon dioxide emissions, we must not forget that the plants will also generate thousands of jobs in the region. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the renewable energy sector could generate 29 million jobs by 2030.
Million-Dollar Investment in the Northeast: Total Will Generate 900 Jobs to Build Wind Farms in RN
The renewable energy producer, which has the Total oil company as a shareholder, announced yesterday (November 26) that it secured a million-dollar funding for the construction of two wind farms in the Northeast, through a long-term debt issuance with a maturity of 22 years.
The long-term financing of R$ 423 million (US$ 76 million) provided by the Bank of the Northeast (BNB) was to finance the Total Eren wind portfolio of 160 MW currently under construction in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Of which R$ 241 million is for the Terra Santa wind farm and R$ 182 million is for Maral.
