The report also states that Siemens will reduce relative emissions by 30% by the year 2030, when compared to 2018. To prove this fact, the company will make public the emissions from the supply chain of products sold in the gas sector and energy throughout its period of use.
According to the German company, this measure aims to make the supply chain more sustainable, in addition to providing greater transparency to the company's actions aimed at decarbonization, including the use of renewable energies.
Prior to this statement, Siemens Energy had already disclosed the goal of achieving climate neutrality in its copyright operations by the year 2030, as well as minimizing direct and indirect emissions by 46% of the company's business activities. Now, Siemens' objective is to reach this interim target five years ahead of the original plan, in the year 2025.
New tenders by Siemens Energy
With regard to the Siemens portfolio, there was a decision to change operations carried out with coal. In November 2020, Siemens Energy made a public announcement that it would not participate in new tenders for plants that will operate solely and exclusively with the use of coal to generate energy. However, the deadline for closing the contracts that were signed under this form of energy generation was not disclosed.
According to Christian Bruch, President and Director of Sustainability at Siemens Energy, the most important internal objective for the company at the moment is to make its own activities neutral in relation to climate pollution by the year 2030, this being the decade to implement actions strong, starting with the use of renewable energies.
“We intend to include the 'Decade of Implementation' – as it was called at the World Climate Conference in Glasgow in November 2021 – within our sphere of responsibility, and actively contribute to the fight against climate change”, stated Bruch.
