Prior to this statement, Siemens Energy had already announced the goal of achieving climate neutrality in its operational activities by 2030, as well as reducing direct and indirect emissions from the company’s business activities by 46%. Now, Siemens aims to reach this interim goal five years ahead of the original plan, in 2025.
New Tenders from Siemens Energy
Regarding Siemens’ portfolio, there was a decision to change operations involving coal. In November 2020, Siemens Energy publicly announced that it would not participate in new tenders for power plants that will operate solely and exclusively using coal to generate energy. However, the timeline for ending contracts signed under this form of energy generation has not been disclosed.
According to Christian Bruch, president and director of Sustainability at Siemens Energy, the most important internal goal for the company at this time is to make its own activities climate-neutral by 2030, marking this decade as a time to implement decisive actions, starting with the use of renewable energy.
“We intend to incorporate the ‘Decade of Implementation’ – as it was called at the World Climate Conference in Glasgow in November 2021 – within our sphere of responsibility, and actively contribute to combating climate change,” Bruch stated.
