Bosch Starts Manufacturing Perfect Chips for Electric Cars with Silicon Carbide Technology That Promises Faster Charging and Will Expand Semiconductor Production to Hundreds of Millions of Units
The arrival of the electric car has meant a revolution in the industry. In a short time, manufacturers and secondary companies focused on creating and evolving specific components for battery-powered vehicles. Bosch, an industry giant, has managed to develop the next generation of semiconductors, silicon carbide (SiC) chips, which promise to be especially suitable for electric vehicles.
“The future of silicon carbide semiconductors is bright. We want to be global leaders in the manufacture of SiC chips for electric vehicles,” said Harald Kroeger, a member of the board of Robert Bosch GmbH. Two years ago, technology and service suppliers announced they would continue with the development and production of SiC chips.
Bosch has developed its own highly complex manufacturing process. Since the beginning of 2021, it has been used in the manufacture of special semiconductors, initially as samples for customer validation. “The boom in electric cars has filled our orders,” says Kroeger.
The Secret Behind the Perfect Chips for Electric Cars Manufactured by the Leading Multinational in Automotive and Industrial Equipment and Tools
The secret behind this high performance lies in the tiny carbon atom that is introduced into the crystal structure of ultra-pure silicon. This gives the material special physical properties. For example: SiC semiconductors tolerate higher switching frequencies, losing only half the energy as heat. Chips are particularly important for 800-volt systems, where they allow faster charging and better performance. Read the full article HERE.
