Volkswagen Has Already Defined Where The Second Of The 6 Gigafactories Will Be Located
Volkswagen, which holds 20% of Northvolt’s shares, will build the second of the 6 gigafactories in Sweden in partnership with the startup. The German automaker has not yet defined the other four locations that will host its electric car battery factories, but according to VW, all should be operational by 2030, the year set by the multinational to have 70% of sales concentrated in 100% electric cars.
“Now we are concentrating our energy in Salzgitter, with the aim of fostering innovation and ensuring the support of the best partners for our new company in the future. We already have a strong battery team in Salzgitter composed of 500 employees from 24 countries – and we continue to strengthen this team at the leadership level,” concluded the brand executive.
For those who don’t know, Volkswagen recently announced a joint effort with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, at the German group’s Innovation Center in the United States.
The company will develop a higher-power wireless charger using innovative designs that focus electromagnetic waves to eliminate interference and, consequently, increase efficiency.
The prototype showed a high level of efficiency in the initial tests, where 98% of the energy used (coil to coil) could reach the vehicle’s battery.

The Ford Motor Company announced on Tuesday (4) that it will double the annual production capacity of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup, which represents the manufacturing of 150,000 vehicles. The model has already attracted nearly 200,000 reservations before its arrival this spring at dealerships in the U.S., and the competition with rivals General Motors and Tesla will intensify!
Ford’s announcement comes a day before the public introduction of the Chevrolet Silverado motorcycle by rival General Motors Co, which is scheduled to be released in early 2023.
