Bosch, Nissan, and Volkswagen Bet on Technology That Obtains Hydrogen From Ethanol; The Fuel Comes to Revolutionize the Automobile Industry Worldwide
The giant multinational Bosch is a company that believes in the electrification of cars using ethanol. This will be possible thanks to the development of an ethanol-based fuel cell, which is also being developed by Nissan and Volkswagen. With this technology, a chemical reaction occurs inside the vehicle’s engine that extracts hydrogen from ethanol and generates electricity, capable of moving it with autonomy and without generating pollutant emissions.
“This is a great opportunity for Brazil and the ethanol industry to generate energy with hydrogen cells, both for stationary applications and urban mobility. By 2050, we know we will have mobility free of carbon dioxide (CO2) and Brazil made the right decision in promoting ethanol, as it is a biofuel that also boosts the local economy and generates jobs for the country,” said Bosch’s president in Latin America, Besaliel Botelho.
According to the executive, a new “leap of prosperity” is about to come. “Today, we are facing a new leap of prosperity with ethanol. Hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, is contained in ethanol, energy-intensive, can be produced with advantages from biomass from sugarcane and corn, is renewable. Hydrogen from ethanol is safe and has zero emissions. Brazil is the only country with a national supply network for ethanol. These factors are decisive for the electrification of automobiles and trucks without the burden of batteries that cost five times more to recycle and still use dirty energy,” pointed out Barbosa.
