The multinational Oxitec is about to inaugurate its new factory in Campinas – SP. The unit promises to generate 200 jobs and contribute to the company's activities in the country and in South America

Oxitec, an English multinational founded at the University of Oxford, has just announced a millionaire investment in the construction of a new factory in Campinas (SP). The new unit, in addition to generating several jobs, will have an area of ​​5,3 m² and will have the mission of supporting the activities of the multinational Oxitec in the country and its expansion to South America. In total, the company promises to generate 200 new jobs for specialists in R&D, biomanufacturing, engineering, customer service and software engineering.

Designed to accommodate Oxitec's growing R&D and commercial operations in the country, the new hybrid factory, which was named Crisálida, will bring together R&D and product development, quality control, manufacturing, shipping, inventory, customer service, creative and digital services.

This is all under one roof, promoting unlimited interactions between those who design, support, manufacture and deliver Oxitec products to customers. In addition to generating several jobs, the building will also have the capacity to expand the production of Aedes do Bem and will also host a biofactory for scaling production of the multinational's next agricultural solutions scheduled to enter the market in the future.

The factory building was designed from the ground up to bridge the common gaps between product innovation, customer experience and manufacturing. By uniting professionals from a wide range of disciplines in an integrated complex, the company's teams will be able to collaborate in a continuous cycle of innovation, fostering constant feedback and open communication between disciplines always centered on a strong connection with its customers.

According to Oxitec's CEO, Gray Frandsen, the plant in the state of São Paulo is yet another great example of how the company is leading the rapid global transition from chemical pesticides to sustainable solutions and biological pest control security to contribute to the planet.

Aedes do Bem

Residents of Campinas received a new method of biological control of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika. The method, developed by Oxitec, consists of using good mosquitoes to mate with females that bite and transmit the disease, with the aim of reducing reproduction.

According to the company, the Brazilian population is the first in the world to have access to this form of combat without the use of chemical products, bringing safety to other species, such as butterflies and bees.
