Traffic Law Imposes Strict Rules on Accessories and Vehicle Modifications, with Heavy Fines for Those Who Do Not Comply with the Regulations.
The traffic law has just become even stricter, bringing changes that will directly impact drivers who enjoy customizing their vehicles. Using accessories outside the permitted specifications or making unauthorized modifications can result in a heavy fine, in addition to other penalties that include vehicle impoundment until regularization. If you are a fan of customized cars, it’s best to stay alert.
According to the traffic law, several alterations that were previously made without much concern are now considered serious violations. This includes everything from using dark films, like the famous G5, to mechanical modifications, like lowered suspension. And it’s no use thinking you can escape: the fine for these violations is R$ 195.23, plus five points on the driver’s license.
Traffic Law Can Cause a Headache
Lowered suspension, one of the favorites among drivers who like to give their car a sporty touch, now requires the issuance of the CSV (Vehicle Safety Certificate), a document that is only released after inspection by a certified technical institution. Without this certificate, the lowered suspension is outside the traffic law and can cause a headache with the fine.

Tinted? Not Allowed
Another point worth highlighting is the issue of tinted windows. Resolution 989/2022 from Contran made it clear that vehicle windows must have a minimum transparency of 70%, including windshields and front side windows. Windows that do not comply with this rule, such as the popular G5 films, are completely against the traffic law and can result in fines and vehicle impoundment. Even rear windows, which have more flexibility in light transmission, must comply with the rule if the car does not have external mirrors on both sides.
Inmetro Approval Seal
It is worth noting that each film applied to the windows needs to bring the Inmetro approval seal and the marking of the transparency percentage, usually preceded by the letter G. This makes the job of traffic agents easier, who have light transmission meters available to check if the vehicle complies with the traffic law.
Seizure
Fines are not the only problem: depending on the severity of the violation, the car may be seized until the irregularity is corrected. This means that a simple preference for customization can end up costing a lot, both in terms of money and the temporary loss of the vehicle.
So, if you are thinking of upgrading your car, whether with a more aggressive look or with that tinted window that gives a sense of security, it’s better to reconsider. With the traffic law becoming stricter, any oversight can result in fines and other problems. Following the rules is the best way to avoid unpleasant surprises and ensure that your car is always within the law.
