Proposal Is the Largest Transmission Project of Neoenergia in Operation and, During Construction, Generated Over 2,000 Jobs and Socio-Environmental Benefits for the Local Population

Neoenergia has just started the commercial operation of the Jalapão Transmission Line, LT 500 kV Miracema – Gilbués II – Barreiras II, which spans from North to Northeast. Now, this line is the longest of the company, passing through Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia, responsible for increasing the transmission network to expand the exchange of energy between North and Northeast, improving the flow of energy produced at the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant (PA), the largest fully Brazilian.

“With our investments in Transmission, we contribute to the development of the Brazilian electricity sector, assisting in the safety and reliability of the system for the expansion of renewable energies. Furthermore, we generate jobs and income in the areas where we operate,” states Fabiano Uchoas, Transmission Director of Neoenergia.

In order to improve service quality, Neoenergia installed capacitor banks in series with the LT 500kV Gilbués II – Barreiras II, enhancing the flow capacity in long lines, such as that of Jalapão.

Improvements for the North and Northeast Regions

The Neoenergia project brought economic and socio-environmental benefits to the population of the area between the North and Northeast. Neoenergia resolved, in collaboration with Ibama, an environmental issue that had persisted for over 5 years, allowing for the recovery of the ecosystem in that stretch.

Pedro Herrmann, project manager for the Jalapão project at Neoenergia, emphasizes that “all actions are aligned with Neoenergia’s corporate purpose of promoting sustainable development in our areas of operation. We generated over 2,000 jobs at the peak of the construction, resolved the environmental liabilities, and created a strategy for reusing structures and materials.”

Approximately 4,000 concrete foundations of an unfinished line were removed. The material was used for access to the towers in the municipalities crossed by the Transmission Line, improving the roads. In addition, using some other materials, over 900 basic food baskets were purchased for donation.

Investments in Transmission

Neoenergia has been increasing investments in transmission. The company has over 5,000 kilometers of lines spread across most Brazilian states. Between January and September 2021, it allocated R$ 1.5 billion in investments to the sector. Among the six projects in licensing and construction, the last two undertakings stand out:

Lot 2 of Auction 01/2020, called Morro do Chapéu (BA, MG, and ES), executed by ANEEL in December 2020 – which foresees the construction of 1,091 km of Transmission Line, substation extensions, and a new substation.

Lot 04 of Auction 02/2021 held by ANEEL in December 2021 – which consists of a 500 kV Estreito substation located in Ibiraci, Minas Gerais, and includes three synchronous compensators -300/+300 Mvar.
