The State-Owned Company Plans to Charter the FSRU to the American Company During the Year 2024.
New Fortress Energy (NFE) and Petrobras reached an agreement to move the regasification vessel Energos Winter to Santa Catarina, thus allowing the start of operations at the Gas-South Terminal (TGS) in the Babitonga Bay starting in 2024.
To enable this operation, Petrobras will subcharter the vessel to NFE next year.
The Energos Winter, which has been part of Petrobras’ fleet since 2009, is owned by Energos Infrastructure, a joint venture between Apollo Global Management (80%) and NFE (20%), and has a contract with Petrobras until the end of 2024.

TGS Officializes Transfer of the Energos Winter to NFE
This year, Petrobras will cease operations at the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Pecém (CE) and agreed to transfer the FSRU to NFE in December. With this transfer, NFE is preparing to begin operations at the terminal in Babitonga Bay, which was initially scheduled for the first half of 2022 but was delayed due to changes in the global LNG market following the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The conflict situation has significantly impacted trade and investment flows, prompting Europe to seek to reduce its dependence on Russian gas. This is due to the need to increase energy security in the region, as recent events have demonstrated the vulnerability of European countries to potential interruptions in gas supply from Russia.
A recurring and highly relevant topic at present is the extension of stress in the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) market. This tense scenario has concerned experts and investors, who seek to understand how long this situation will last and what the possible impacts will be on the operations and strategies of the major players in this sector. Volatility and unpredictability have put those involved in this market on alert, as any significant change can lead to commercial and financial imbalances.
New Fortress Energy, an energy infrastructure company, has established supply contracts with various partners, seeking to expand its business and meet the growing demand for natural gas. One of its contracts is with SCGás, with a duration of five years and a daily delivery of 150,000 m3. Additionally, the company is directing efforts to attract new customers, such as power plants and transporters, who are interested in utilizing the balancing service offered by New Fortress. These strategies aim not only to strengthen its position in the market but also to contribute to the development of the sector and provide efficient and sustainable solutions for the energy industry.
Transfer of the Operation of the Regasification Terminal in Ceará to the Company for the Development of the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém
In 2024, Petrobras will cease its operation at the regasification terminal located in Ceará. The Port Operation Contract between the state-owned company and the Company for the Development of the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP) will come to an end, resulting in the transfer of ownership of the equipment at this terminal to CIPP.
This transfer marks a new chapter in the management of the terminal in Santa Catarina, bringing significant changes to the local market. Furthermore, it is important to note that the terminal is strategically connected to Gasbol, which is operated by the Brazilian Transporter Bolivia-Brazil Pipeline (TBG), ensuring the supply of natural gas in a continuous and reliable manner.
Petrobras aims to focus on the LNG regasification terminals located in Guanabara Bay (RJ) and Todos os Santos Bay (BA). The company has a lease contract with Excelerate for the terminal in Bahia, which will end at the end of this year. However, the company plans to resume operations at the terminal in 2024.
In October, Petrobras signed a contract with Excelerate Energy for the chartering of the FSRU Sequoia, which is responsible for the operation of the terminal in Bahia. This contract will last for ten years and will begin in January 2024.
