Data recently published by Petrobras showed an 8.5% reduction in the workforce of the oil company in 2019. In total, 5,378 people left the company, and thus, the company ended last year with 57,983 employees, a drop of 8.5% compared to 2018.

Last year, Petrobras proposed 3 voluntary dismissal programs (PDVs). The first PDV was aimed at retired employees. The second targeted those in the company’s divestment areas. Finally, the third PDV was directed at corporate area employees. In the three voluntary dismissal programs, 3,294 people applied, and 995 left the company by December 2019.

In a statement presented by Petrobras at the end of last year during the announcement of one of the PDVs, “The initiative is part of the ongoing effort to make the company more sustainable, with efficient personnel management”, the company noted.
It also highlighted: “Petrobras reinforces its commitment to transparency and respect for all its employees. The company seeks to create conditions for professionals to make the best choice, always maintaining their commitment to ethics, transparency, and the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency”, it stated in the note.
By the last month of last year, the company had a total of 17,590 dismissals through PDVs, culminating in R$ 5.83 billion in severance payments. Through this, the company avoided costs of R$ 28.34 billion.
