Mate Has Just Launched An Electric Cargo Bike That Promises To Transform Urban Mobility And Even Replace Some Models Of Conventional Cars.
With the price of electric cars rising constantly, thousands of people are waiting longer to buy a car or even abandoning the idea. Focusing on this audience and staying true to the sustainability concept, Mate launched a prototype electric bike.
Company Creates SUV-Style Cargo Bike With The Promise To Replace Cars
This is a cargo electric bike from Mate, a company that has undergone several transformations recently through external investments and new management. The model promises to replace conventional cars and serve a family following a trend of urban mobility that is more “bike-friendly,” like in Copenhagen, where the company was founded.
Mate’s electric bike will be produced and assembled in Italy. Initially, the model will be sold in the European Union and the United Kingdom. Electric bikes are not as cheap as conventional ones; however, compared to an electric or combustion car, their price is very accessible. For those earning in euros, for example, the cost-benefit is even greater.

In addition to the vehicle’s price itself, the average cost per year to maintain a car exceeds €7,000 in Europe. Meanwhile, it is estimated that the electric bike from Mate will start at €6,499. In a direct conversion, in Brazil, users would have to pay around R$36,000. Still, it remains a lower price than a brand new entry-level car.
This model of electric bike that promises to change urban mobility features a 250W motor, a range of up to 100 km, and a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The bike that promises to replace the car has a capacity of 210 L and is expected to be launched in Europe in September this year. There is currently no data on exports to Brazil.
More Affordable Options For Urban Mobility
For those who cannot afford to buy Mate’s new electric bike, Zehus, an Italian electric bike manufacturer, presented earlier this year its Bike+ kit, which transforms regular bikes into electric bikes and does not require outlets for charging. This way, cyclists can use the kit to convert their bike into electric without worrying about battery discharge.
The best part of the bike conversion kit is that cyclists do not need to pedal to generate this energy, as the equipment recovers the battery of the electric bike during braking.
According to the producing company, by generating energy while the user is not pedaling, the kit can reduce fatigue by up to 40%. It is also possible to charge the model via an outlet if the user prefers to use it in turbo mode. In its most powerful mode, the conversion kit has a range of 35 km.
What Is The Main Advantage of An Electric Bike?
An electric bike, also known as an e-bike, uses an integrated electric motor to provide light propulsion to the vehicle. There is a wide variety of models, some lighter ones that reach speeds between 20 km/h and 32 km/h, while others more powerful can reach up to 45 km/h.
The main benefit of this type of vehicle compared to a conventional bike is its practicality, allowing users to travel around the city quickly and efficiently, without generating much pollution (we have the battery factor to consider).
Additionally, for those who do not have physical limitations or wish to avoid arriving at work sweaty, the electric bike plays an important role in urban mobility, providing independence from cars and crowded public transport.
