Suzano’s New Factory Is Set to Begin Operations Soon. After Billion-Dollar Investments, the New Pulp Factory Promises to Generate Thousands of New Jobs.

Suzano (SUZB3) announced on Tuesday (25) that operations at its new pulp factory in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Mato Grosso do Sul (Cerrado Project), will begin throughout July this year. The venture promises to generate thousands of job openings for local residents, boosting the local economy and strengthening Suzano’s presence in the pulp sector.

Suzano’s New Factory Has Investments of R$ 22.2 Billion

Suzano has postponed the start of operations for the Cerrado Project. Previously, the new pulp factory was expected to be delivered in the second half of 2024, by June. Now, it has been pushed to July this year.

The document signed by the Executive Director of Finance and Investor Relations, Marcelo Feriozzi Bacci, informs that the project for the new Suzano factory, which will create several job openings, is already in the final phase of commissioning.

According to the company’s statement, the Cerrado Project is in its final phase of commissioning, and the company aims to ensure the proper execution of the start-up of the new pulp factory and the good performance of its learning curve. All other information and estimates released about the project remain valid and unchanged.

The total amount invested in the project was R$ 22.2 billion, making it the largest industry in the world with a single production line in the pulp area. This is the largest volume of private funds being invested in Brazil. The new Suzano factory, which began construction in May 2021, will have a nominal capacity of 2.55 million tons of eucalyptus pulp production per year.

Suzano’s New Factory Has Already Generated 10,000 Jobs and Promises to Create Another 3,000

During the construction phase, the new pulp factory has already generated about 10,000 direct job openings at the peak of construction, in addition to thousands of indirect jobs.

When completed, the new facility is expected to create around 3,000 opportunities for direct and third-party employees. In February this year, Governor Eduardo Riedel (PSDB) signed the Service Order for the Integrated Center Sesi Senai in Ribas do Rio Pardo. The site is expected to be completed in 2025.

The Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (Fiems) is investing over R$ 40 million in the center and expects to train 1,300 people in the first three years to fill job openings in Suzano’s pulp industry.

The agenda also addressed the impacts on the municipality and celebrated the upcoming completion of the project. The mayor of Ribas do Rio Pardo, Alfredo Danieze (PT), spoke about the “pain of growth.” The city has experienced abrupt growth and an urgent demand for public services.

Suzano Closes Partnership to Encourage Small Producers in Ribas do Rio Pardo

Suzano, in partnership with the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Mato Grosso do Sul (Famasul), through the “Productive Inclusion” program, will invest in inputs aimed at small rural producers in order to assist in growth in Ribas do Rio Pardo.

The announcement of the partnership comes one day after the disclosure of the delay in activating the R$ 22 billion factory in the municipality and amid the crisis of Suzano’s outsourced company, which changed partners while applying a million-dollar default.

According to the information released by Famasul, the signing of the cooperation agreement was initially aimed at serving 135 families and aims to foster job generation and thus bring income stimulation in the countryside. Families engaged in agriculture and livestock in the areas surrounding the construction of the new factory in Ribas do Rio Pardo will be served.
