According to Mayor Rodrigo Battistella, the investment in a factory of Zé Pneus’ scale not only benefits the employees who will have opportunities in the company but also all residents. “This will create a cycle of economy and development for Nova Santa Rita. Thanks to this, we are advancing in all areas of the city.”

Last week, Pirelli completed the closure of the motorcycle tire factory in Gravataí, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. With the closure, about 850 employees were dismissed.
The announcement of the factory closure in Gravataí was made in May 2019 when the manufacturer began a productive reorganization process that included adapting the Campinas factory in the interior of the state of São Paulo to produce the tires that had been manufactured for 45 years in Gaúcho soil.
During this time, the government of Rio Grande do Sul tried to convince the Italian multinational to abandon the idea, unsuccessfully. Pirelli states that it took measures to mitigate the social impact of the factory’s closure, such as transferring workers to other operations of the group and providing professional qualification courses for the reemployment of those who lost their jobs. An agreement with the union representing the factory workers in the region also provides for financial incentives based on years of service and extends health insurance for six months to those dismissed.
