Gradual Release Of Traffic On The 760-Meter Bridge Over The Paraná River, After USD 1.9 Billion In Investments And Three Years Without Operation, Seeks To Relieve Daily Flow Of About 400 Trucks Between Foz Do Iguaçu And Paraguay, Strengthening Regional Logistics

The Governments Of Brazil And Paraguay Released Traffic On The New Integration Bridge Over The Paraná River On Friday (19) After Three Years Without Operation, With An Investment Of USD 1.9 Billion, 760 Meters In Length, Connecting Foz Do Iguaçu And Presidente Franco, And Having A Direct Impact On Regional Logistics.

Gradual Release Of Traffic And Structure Characteristics

The Release Occurs Gradually, Starting With The Circulation Of Empty Trucks In Both Directions. The Bridge Has Two Single Lanes, Each 3.6 Meters Wide, Connecting Foz Do Iguaçu In Western Paraná To Presidente Franco In Paraguay.

Despite Being Inaugurated In December 2022, The Structure Remained Motionless For Three Years. The Absence Of Customs And Access Roads Prevented The Use Of The Bridge, Even With The Construction Physically Completed And Suitable For Operation Since That Period.

Relief For The Friendship Bridge And Regional Logistics

The Main Objective Of The New Link Is To Reduce The Overload On The Friendship Bridge, Which Until Then Concentrated All Road Traffic Between The Two Countries In The Triple Frontier Region.

Currently, About 400 Trucks Cross The Friendship Bridge Daily, Connecting Foz Do Iguaçu To Ciudad Del Este. The New Route Seeks To Redistribute This Flow And Improve The Operational Conditions Of Cross-Border Transport.

Project History And Official Ceremony

The Diplomatic Negotiations For The Construction Of The Second Bridge Began 33 Years Ago. The Release Included The Presence Of President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva And Transport Minister Renan Filho, During An Event Held In The Context Of Mercosur.

The Bridge Was Built Over The Paraná River, Consolidating A New Logistics Alternative At The Border After Decades Of Negotiations And Operational Hurdles That Delayed Its Full Utilization.
