Amid the advancement of artificial intelligence over tasks related to information, ChatGPT pointed out research librarian as the job most similar to its skills, citing reliable search, data organization, and explanation of complex ideas, but recognized limitations in functions that require human experience and emotional reciprocity

Artificial intelligence entered the debate about jobs by indicating research librarian as the human function that most matches its skills, after citing the ability to organize data, explain complex ideas, and support reliable searches.

Research librarian appears at the center

When asked which job it would choose if it could take on a profession, ChatGPT pointed to three paths: research librarian, investigative analyst, and teacher. The first option was highlighted for being closest to its way of operating.

The justification was the similarity between the work of a research librarian and tasks such as clarifying demands, locating reliable information, and connecting ideas that might seem separate.

The topic is growing amid fears that artificial intelligence will reduce jobs. The tool cited skills associated with information processing, such as identifying patterns in data volumes.

What these professionals do

Academic and research librarians work in educational institutions, including colleges. Their role involves supporting teachers, researchers, and students in accessing necessary information and developing research skills.

Among the activities mentioned are informational literacy, referencing, bibliographic research, and copyright. These tasks explain why the function was associated with AI capabilities.

Limits of artificial intelligence in jobs

Despite the choice, complete replacement does not appear as an automatic conclusion. ChatGPT itself recognized limitations in areas that require physical dexterity, human experience, and emotional reciprocity.

This point separates informational automation from human presence in service, teaching, and direct guidance. AI can assist searches, organize data, and explain content, but it does not replicate the human interaction involved in the profession.

Leave your opinion in the comments: should artificial intelligence be seen as a direct threat to jobs or as a support tool for professionals dealing with research, information, teaching, and public service?
