Agroindustrial Group from SP Establishes Itself in MS to Invest and Operate Plant of Former Orbi Bioenergia Sugarcane Mill
Pedra Agroindustrial S/A, from Andradina (SP), announced that it has taken possession of the Orbi Bioenergia sugarcane mill plant, located at Fazenda Toca da Coruja, in the district of Vila Raimundo, on BR-158 highway, km 62, Rural Zone of Paranaíba, in MS. The mill – which is still unfinished – was owned by Companhia Energia Renovável (Cern), which was set to oversee the operations of the plant in the future and generate over a thousand jobs.

Sugarcane Mill Will Start Operations in 2 Years
The new Cedro Mill, as the former Orbi Bioenergia will be called from now on by Pedra Agroindustrial S/A, its new owner, is expected to have its first crush of the first harvest, already estimated at around 1.2 million tons of sugarcane, only in 2024, with an estimate of reaching 5 million tons of crushed sugarcane.
The expectation is that throughout the repair works on the mill and also after the completion of the works, over 1,200 direct and outsourced jobs will be created.

Initial Stages of Mill Operation
Last Thursday, 6, representatives from Pedra Agroindustrial S/A were in the municipality of Paranaíba, MS, and met with Mayor Maycol Queiroz (PDT) to discuss the initial stages for the operation of the mill.
The first step is to conduct a detailed study on the main rural roads of the municipality in MS and also to check the current condition of the bridges that will be part of the route to be used both by raw materials and by future employees.
The study will also serve to identify the best routes for production flow. According to Mayor Maycol Queiroz, in addition to improving and boosting the local economy, over 1,200 jobs and income will be generated, not to mention the visibility for the municipality and also for the state of MS.
Initial Demand for the New Cedro Mill
According to the agricultural corporate manager of Pedra Agroindustrial S/A, Sérgio Luiz dos Santos, the agroindustry aims to plant around 1,500 hectares of sugarcane in at least three months to meet the mill’s needs.
Sérgio highlighted that all phases of the group are very concrete and that the project is already a reality. He stated that next month, February, some works will begin within the industrial area of the mill. Mayor Maycol also spoke about other attempts to leverage the mill project, totaling 12 years of failed attempts with other agroindustries.
Maycol notably mentioned in an interview with a local radio about the investment from SESI/SENAI of R$ 15 million, as well as the investment in qualified labor and the partnership that will be established in the next stages of the project with local sugarcane farmers, valuing regional family farming.
