Brand-New SUV From Japanese Maker Is Expected to Inherit the Mechanical Set of the Kicks Play, Maintain Reliability Reputation for Previous Owners of the Model, Fill the Gap Left by the New Generation, and Expand Nissan’s Presence in Fleets and Companies
The long-awaited Nissan Kait, the new compact SUV from the Japanese brand, is already dominating conversations on social media and driving dealerships across the country. Although it has not been fully revealed yet, the model frequently appears in spy shots and positions itself as a direct evolution of the current Kicks Play, but with a redesigned look, a more robust technological package, and a market strategy targeting competitors like Honda WR-V, Volkswagen Tera, Renault Kardian, and Fiat Pulse.
At first glance, the Kait’s lines make it clear that Nissan is betting on an intermediate SUV to fill the increasingly obvious gap between the price of the Kicks Play, which starts at R$ 117,990, and the new Kicks, positioned starting at R$ 166,990. Moreover, dealership networks indicate that many customers have been seeking early information, driven by a desire for a reliable, modern vehicle without the complexity of turbo engines.

The Return of the 1.6 Engine and CVT Transmission
According to consulted dealers, the new Nissan Kait is expected to be launched with the well-known 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, paired with a CVT transmission, the same setup present in the Kicks Play. This decision was not made lightly: according to dealers, a large portion of customers preferred to stick with the older model precisely to avoid adopting the 1.0 turbo engine with dual-clutch transmission from the new generation of Kicks.

Chevrolet Tornado Van 2026 emerges as a compact van cheaper than many popular cars in Brazil, with a 1.5 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 650 kg load capacity, 3.3 m³ of usable space, and fuel consumption of up to 18.1 km/l for about R$ 87,000 in tax-free conversion; an urban utility vehicle that Brazilians don’t have, but Mexico does.

Forget the basic popular car: used sedans like Passat CC, Kia Cerato, Nissan Altima, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Volvo S60 show that it’s still possible to buy more performance, comfort, and technology for less than many new compacts.

Used Honda Civic: 3 versions of the Japanese sedan with naturally aspirated engines of up to 155 hp, fuel consumption of up to 13.8 km/l, robust automatic transmission, and a reputation for reliable mechanics still dominate the used car market in Brazil.

Toyota Hilux becomes a ‘cargo truck’: automaker declares a new era for the pickup with greater capacity, reinforced chassis, 2.8 turbodiesel engine, raised suspension, 1,525 kg load capacity, and targets Ford Ranger Super Duty, which tows an impressive 4,500 kg.
This behavior indicates a clear demand for mechanical reliability, a characteristic that built the reputation of the old Kicks in the Brazilian market. Thus, the Kait emerges as a balanced proposal for consumers who desire proven robustness but do not want to give up a refreshed look and more onboard technology.
According to the website Motor1.com, which published spy shots and early details, the 1.6 engine with CVT should be one of the strategic pillars of the project. Furthermore, Nissan aims to reach a broader audience, including companies and fleet operators, who value durability and low maintenance costs—attributes directly associated with the naturally aspirated engine.
The Kicks Play Dilemma and the Space That the Kait Should Occupy
The proximity between the current prices of the Kicks Play—which range from R$ 117,990 to R$ 150,190—and the range where the Kait is expected to debut raises doubts about the survival of the Play version. While the new Kicks has become considerably more expensive, the Play line has not received updates capable of attracting new consumers.
In this scenario, the Kait presents itself as the “perfect middle ground,” offering the modern look of the new Kicks but with the mechanical reliability of the previous model. Thus, it tends to capture not only previous owners of the SUV but also consumers who would switch to direct competitors, such as Pulse and Kardian.
This information is reinforced by reports from dealerships, which claim that many owners of the previous Kicks did not advance to the new model precisely out of fear of the turbo engine and dual-clutch transmission. Consequently, the launch of the Kait emerges as a solution to preserve a loyal audience and recover sales that could slip away to competing brands.
Launch Later This Year and Market Expectations
The launch of the Nissan Kait is confirmed for later this year, but the brand maintains suspense regarding versions, equipment, and final prices. However, signs indicate that the model will arrive to compete directly in the fastest-growing segment in Brazil, offering consumers a reliable, rational, and well-equipped alternative.
Expectations are that the Kait will be officially unveiled with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, CVT transmission, and more comprehensive connectivity packages. The lingering question is the fate of the Kicks Play line, as its current positioning overlaps with the niche in which the new Kait is expected to operate.
However, while Nissan has yet to make an official statement, dealerships continue to advance information, and consumers keep sending spy shots, further fueling expectations for the arrival of the new SUV.
