Oil Production Increased by 7.78% Compared to 2018, with Pre-Salt Being the “Golden Child” of This New National Milestone
ANP confirmed this Wednesday (22) another major milestone in Brazilian oil production. The total number of barrels in 2019 was 1,018, while in 2018 it was 944,117 barrels, exceeding by 7.78%. Gas production also kept pace, reaching 44.724 billion cubic meters compared to 40.887 billion m³ in the same period.

The Pre-Salt accounted for over 50% of the total oil produced. There were 633.980 million barrels (21.56%) and 25.906 billion cubic meters of natural gas (23.27%) in 2019. In 2018, there were 521.543 million barrels of oil and 21.016 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
“In December 2019, oil production was 3.106 million barrels per day (MMbbl/d), exceeding by 0.52% the record set in the previous month and by 15.44% the production of December 2018. Natural gas production also surpassed the previous month’s record, registering a 0.87% increase and reaching an average of 137.8 million cubic meters per day (MMm3/d). Compared to December 2018, the variation was 21.19%.”

Pre-Salt production in December accounted for 66.82% of national production, totaling 2.655 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMboe/d), comprising 2.118 MMbbl/d of oil and 85.4 MMm3/d of natural gas. Compared to the previous month, total production increased by 2.58% and 40.62% compared to December 2018. Again, the Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, recording 1.074 MMbbl/d of oil and 45 MMm3/d of natural gas, concluded ANP in an official statement to the press.
