Heated Automotive Market: New Compact SUV from Geely Arrives Achieving 74 km/l with a Price Equivalent to About R$ 90,000. Chinese Model is Expected to Arrive in the Americas by 2025.

The BYD Atto 3, a Chinese model chosen as the best buy of 2024 among compact SUVs in the European automotive market, just gained a worthy competitor. This is the new compact SUV from Geely, the Galaxy E5, which made its debut a week ago in China, from where it will head to conquer Europe and even the Americas.

Will the New Compact SUV from Geely Arrive in the Brazilian Automotive Market?

Even without official confirmation, the expectation for the arrival of the new SUV in the automotive market here in 2025 is high, which increases curiosity about a model that surpasses the trio of best-selling vehicles in the class in the national market in every way.

Being larger, more modern, and well-equipped, in addition to being infinitely more economical, the Galaxy E5 has plenty of attributes to drive the transition to electromobility in the Land of Vera Cruz and increase the share of EVs, which today stand at 3% of the total for passenger and light commercial vehicles.

According to Jerry Gan, CEO of the company, during the official presentation, the company is launching a global product that is designed to comply with the regulatory requirements of 89 countries.

Compared to the VW T-Cross, the new compact SUV from Geely is 40 cm longer (4.61 m in length), 15 cm wider (1.90 m in width), and 10 cm taller (1.67 m in height), also enjoying a 10 cm advantage in wheelbase – at 2.75 m.

Weighing 1,615 kg, the new compact SUV from Geely is 310 kg heavier than the Volkswagen SUV, but its acceleration time is shorter, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 s (compared to 8.6s for the Highline 1.4 TSI version of the VW). Here, although the Galaxy E5 is faster, the T-Cross reaches a top speed of 202 km/h, compared to 180 km/h for the Geely.

New Chinese SUV Focuses on Efficiency

Getting straight to the point, the Chinese launch leaves the Volkswagen model behind in terms of efficiency. Equipped with a new generation of LFP batteries, called Aegis Short Blade, capable of running a million kilometers over 50 years, the new compact SUV from Geely also promises the highest charging speeds in its class in the automotive market.

Its electricity consumption (11.9 kWh/100 km), equivalent to 74.6 km/l, averages five to nine times higher than that of the T-Cross 1.4 TSI. Doing a simple calculation, based on the cost of R$ 0.52 per kilometer driven with the VW (in the Chinese SEV, the cost per kilometer is R$ 0.08), the fuel expenses of the national SUV owner over 170,000 km equal the price of a brand new Galaxy E5.

New Compact SUV from Geely Delivers 540 km of Range

Inside the Galaxy E5, the large floating central screen, digital instrument panel, and head-up display (HUD) stand out. The Flyme Auto operating system from Meizu has more functions than Android Auto and CarPlay, as well as more intuitive features – the top versions even come with up to 16 speakers (including in the headrests).

In terms of design, the highlight goes to the hidden door handles that promise reliability, even in extreme conditions, and Geely even plans to share this technology with other manufacturers.

Regarding range, the new automotive market release can travel 440 or even 530 kilometers without the need for battery recharging, depending on the version. Partial recharging of the battery pack, from 30% to 80% capacity, takes only 20 minutes. As for the price, the new compact SUV from Geely starts at the equivalent of R$ 90,000 in the Chinese automotive market.
