The New Electric Tractor from the Foxconn Electronic Components Factory Arrives in the Heavy Vehicle Market Costing US$ 50 Thousand
Foxconn, known for manufacturing electronic components for tech giants like Apple and Huawei, decided to expand its business and enter the electrification of other sectors. The company has started producing electric tractors at its new factory in Lordstown, Ohio, acquired in 2021 for US$ 230 million from Lordstown Motors, according to the Portal Energia website.
Thus, predominantly the use of this electric tractor will be in the agriculture sector, which is increasingly embracing technological innovations. With the evolution of the electric motor market, manufacturers have sought to look at other sectors to initiate electrification. The new electric tractor model from Foxconn was developed in partnership with the start-up Monarch and features a peak power motor of 70 kW, continuous power of 40 kW, and a runtime of over 14 hours on a single charge, according to the manufacturer.
Safety and Automation of the New Electric Tractor
Safety is an important aspect of operating tractors, and the electric tractor from Foxconn has been manufactured with various systems to ensure the operator’s safety. It includes a rollover and collision prevention system, power take-off (PTO) safety, person detection, and 360º cameras that allow this tractor to be operated even at night. In addition, the tractor can be used with or without a driver, with driver assistance systems, as well as the ability to perform pre-programmed tasks or gesture and shadow modes for the tractor to follow a worker in their tasks.

Technological innovations also come with a high price. The electric tractor manufactured by Foxconn will cost 50 million dollars, double that of a similar gasoline model. However, the investment may be offset by long-term cost reductions and the automation of various tasks.
Electrification in agriculture is a trend that has been gaining momentum, and the Foxconn factory is positioning itself well in this market with the production of electric tractors. With advanced safety systems and automation possibilities, these tractors manufactured recently could bring many benefits to the agricultural sector, even with the higher price.
